1* Clean water provision
The demand for water rises in drought and hunger situations, as a result of the scarcity of this vital substance. Clean water is not only essential for drinking, cooking and washing hands, but also preventing deadly waterborne illnesses, such as cholera, of which most of the victims are children under 5.
2* Hygiene and sanitation provision
Most of the victims live in areas lacking sanitation facilities and an adequate supply of hygiene materials. This exposes them to diarrhea and other waterborne illnesses that prevent absorbing nutrients.
These areas could be supported by providing latrines, hygiene kits and handwashing stations.
3* Food delivery
Food insecurity crisis may happen when there is a shortage of food, or many cannot cope with higher food prices. Therefore, at times of emergencies such as hunger, providing life-saving therapeutic food is essential for fighting hunger.
4* Support for vulnerable groups
Giving priority to vulnerable groups including children, females and those with chronic diseases is essential for eliminating hunger and malnutrition. According to the World Food Program, women are more likely than men to suffer from hunger in nearly two thirds of the world’s countries. Hunger also impacts mothers significantly.
5* Cultivation of crops support and livestock provision
Supporting the cultivation of crops could be through providing seeds, farm machinery, pesticides and fertilizers. Proving farms also with livestock, fodder and veterinary services is essential for providing food and fighting hunger.
