Qatar Charity has put an end to the suffering of hundreds of students in several rural areas in Ghana. This came as part of its ongoing campaign ‘Education Makes It Possible’ and with the support of the benevolent people in Qatar.
These students were facing difficulties due to the lack of available seats for studying, owing to the overcrowding in the classrooms, which forced them to do their school assignments while standing or sitting on the ground outside the old and dilapidated classrooms.
Well-Equipped Facilities
Qatar Charity put an end to the hardship of the students by constructing new schools in Ghana during the first half of the current year. Its office in the country inaugurated four schools in a row during the past months, while the construction of two new schools were completed and they are now ready for inauguration.
Many students who have taken their appropriate seats in the newly built and well-furnished classrooms, expressed their gratitude and appreciation to Qatar Charity and the benevolent people of Qatar for putting an end to their suffering and creating an environment conducive for learning in a suitable and dignified atmosphere.
The educational projects of Qatar Charity have been warmly welcomed on both the government and public levels in Ghana. Sheikh Saleh Suleiman, the representative of the General Imam in the Dodowa district, praised the advanced standards with which Qatar Charity builds its schools. He stated that the classrooms are equipped with all the necessary educational requirements in a manner that ensures a good academic achievement to secure a better life for the children.
Qatar Charity aims, through the construction of various schools and classroom, to establish educational facilities and create an effective and safe learning environment that takes into account gender differences and the needs of people with disabilities. This effort will help overcome illiteracy, ensure the continuity of students’ education, enhance the quality of education, and contribute to improving the performance of the educational system in Ghana.
Gratitude & Appreciation
The significant impact of Qatar Charity’s educational projects has led many officials and teachers in Ghana to express their gratitude and appreciation for the efforts of Qatar Charity and the contributions of the benevolent people in Qatar. Nesiba Baher, a teacher at one of the schools established by Qatar Charity in Ghana, stated that the school she works at serves a very impoverished area. She added that the school stands as a distinctive educational institution that was established at the right time to address the large overcrowding of students. She noted that new furniture and all the necessary facilities were provided, which have positively reflected on the academic performance and the learning outcomes of the children. Nesiba also mentioned that some students who had left their studies in old and ill-equipped schools have returned to continue their education in the modern schools built by Qatar Charity. She indicated that the joy of the children’s mothers was indescribable upon seeing their children’s return to school.
The Secretary-General of the Islamic Education Unit at the Ministry of Education in Ghana, Munir Taha, expressed his gratitude to Qatar Charity for constructing dozens of schools that elevate the status of education and encourage students to learn. He also highlighted the struggles of students in classrooms within schools having large numbers of students, even in the capital and major cities, where the number of students per classroom reaches around 90 students.
Sustainable Use
Preceding the construction of the new schools, Qatar Charity’s Ghana office conducted a sectoral study that revealed a severe shortage of classrooms in the targeted areas within the less-developed districts, in accordance with the country’s educational strategy.
The study further showed that the quality of education remains below the standard level, and that the costs of education are high for impoverished families. There is also a significant lack of proper educational facilities and their quality. Students use wooden classrooms that do not encourage them to learn and do not provide them with the necessary enthusiasm for academic achievement, especially during the rainy seasons.
Hence, Qatar Charity’s educational interventions came to address all these issues. Additionally, Qatar Charity took the initiative to operate the schools by providing teachers and staff to ensure sustainable use of the schools.
