‘Labbeh Gaza’ Campaign: Bringing Hope and Relief

2024-06-13

Qatar Charity (QC) has launched the ‘Labbeh Gaza’ campaign, a major humanitarian initiative aimed at addressing the critical needs of the people in the Gaza Strip. This comprehensive campaign, with a total cost estimated at QR 40 million, seeks to benefit 550,000 individuals by providing essential support in the areas of food, shelter, and medicine.

Addressing Four Key Areas of Need

1. Food Security

Food security is a pressing concern in Gaza. The ‘Labbeh Gaza’ campaign addresses this by distributing food packages, ready-to-eat meals, and other essential food items to ensure that families have access to adequate nutrition. Recently, QC began distributing a new shipment of essential food items in North Gaza and Jabalia, including 10,000 food packages delivered through Jordan in cooperation with UNRWA. Over half of these packages have already reached those in need.

2. Health Support

The health sector in Gaza has been severely strained, necessitating urgent intervention. QC’s health aid includes providing medical supplies and medicines, supporting the health sector, and renovating hospitals. This is part of Qatar Charity’s ongoing humanitarian assistance, which has included shipping over 1,010 tons of aid, with 840 tons of food supplies and around 170 tons of shelter materials, medical supplies, and hygiene kits.

3. Shelter and Housing

Over the past 8 months, thousands of families have been displaced. The campaign is focused on providing tents, caravans, renovating homes, and building new housing units to ensure safe and secure living conditions. The aid also includes non-food items such as clothing, blankets, and sleeping mats.

4. Education

Recognizing the importance of education for future generations, the campaign includes efforts to renovate and build schools and universities, as well as provide scholarships. This support aims to create a stable educational environment and offer opportunities for academic advancement.

Collaboration and Distribution Channels

Assistance under the ‘Labbeh’ campaign will be provided during Dhu al-Hijjah and the subsequent months. The distribution will utilize various means, including the Qatari airlift in collaboration with relevant Qatari bodies, or through accessible crossings like the Rafah Crossing (via Egypt) and the Karem Abu Salem crossing (via Jordan). Qatar Charity is also working with international organizations such as UNRWA to ensure the aid reaches those in need efficiently.

Ongoing Humanitarian Efforts

Qatar Charity’s commitment to Gaza is not new. Since October, QC has been providing ongoing humanitarian assistance across various sectors, including food, health, shelter, and water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH). The urgent relief project has delivered over one million hot meals, approximately 70,000 food packages, 27,000 bags of flour, 1,250 clothing vouchers, nearly 12,000 blankets, and 8,000 sleeping mats. Recently, 13 trucks carrying food and medical supplies were transported through Jordan to support these efforts.

Future Plans and Global Reach

Beyond the immediate relief efforts, Qatar Charity has laid out a comprehensive plan for humanitarian and development programs in Gaza. This plan was discussed at the 9th Conference on Effective Partnership for Better Humanitarian Aid in Kuwait, with the aim of mobilizing resources for effective response and reconstruction. The total estimated cost for these projects is around $120 million, covering life-saving interventions, shelter, health, education, and economic empowerment. In addition to the ‘Labbeh Gaza’ campaign, Qatar Charity continues to implement its Dhul-Hijjah Campaign for the 1445 AH – 2024 season. This global initiative aims to benefit approximately 3.5 million people, distributing sacrificial meat within and outside Qatar and supporting various
