A delegation from Qatar Charity (QC) continues the distribution of Urgent Relief Aid to those affected by floods and landslides in northern Tanzania. The delegation is led by Mr. Jassim Abdullah Al-Jassim, advisor to Qatar Charity’s CEO. The aid distribution was attended by Qatar’s ambassador to Tanzania Fahad Rashid al-Marekhi, along with Tanzanian officials.
The aid was transported by the two aircrafts of the Qatar Emiri Air Force, in cooperation with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to Kilimanjaro, Tanzania, with each aircraft carrying 45 tons of aid, including basic food and medical supplies, provided by Qatar Charity.
Qatar’s ambassador to Tanzania Fahad Rashid al-Marekhi, said, “This aid is aimed at strengthening and enhancing the distinguished and historical Qatari-Tanzanian relations. It came to assist our brothers and sisters in Tanzania following the natural disaster that they have faced in the past days and months.”
The advisor to Qatar Charity’s CEO Mr. Jassim Abdullah Al-Jassim said, “This aid comes as a humanitarian response and fraternal duty to alleviate the suffering of those affected by this disaster, in coordination with local Tanzanian authorities.”
On her part, Ms. Queen Sendiga, the Regional Commissioner of Manyara, stated, “We express our gratitude to the State of Qatar for this assistance, and we assure you that it will reach those most affected by the disaster.”
Ummy Hamis Nderiananga, Deputy Minister, Prime Minister's Office, said, "On behalf of the government led by Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan, we are extremely grateful to the State of Qatar for providing humanitarian assistance to the Tanzanian government." She thanked Qatar for this prompt humanitarian response.
It is worth mentioning that the Qatari aid will meet the needs of the local community. The project includes the distribution of urgent assistance to the most impoverished and marginalized families in the flood-affected areas of the Manyara region. The project aims to distribute food packages and essential supplies.
Tanzania has been experiencing heavy rainfall since October last year, which caused mudslides that have claimed the lives of dozens, with hundreds injured. The floods have also resulted in the destruction of various crops.
