As part of its series of Humanitarian Interventions in Sudan, Qatar Charity provided new shelter centers for displaced people in schools in the city of Port Sudan, the capital of Red Sea State, by providing tents to prepare schools and resume education in the city. Bridging the gap This step was welcomed locally, as the Governor of the Red Sea State, General Mustafa Muhammad Nour, praised Qatar Charity’s response to the humanitarian needs in the region by providing the necessary shelter in conjunction with the resumption of the school year in the state, and on behalf of the government and citizens of the Red Sea State, he thanked the State of Qatar and Qatar Charity for what it provided for the humanitarian aid in various fields such as education, shelter, food and environmental sanitation. For his part, Director of the Education Sector and Minister in Charge of the Red Sea State, Hashim Ali Issa, praised the efforts of Qatar Charity for its contribution to the start of the school year and overcoming the difficulties facing the displaced by providing them with shelter. Hashem expressed his aspiration for more support because there is a need for more shelter interventions. He also thanked Qatar Charity for its humanitarian role in the region. In this context, Naji Mansour, Director General of the Sudanese Coalition for Education, said that the issue of sheltering the displaced in schools was one of the obstacles preventing the resumption of the educational process, and he thanked Qatar Charity and all the institutions contributing to sheltering the displaced. In a related context, Al-Tom Bakhit, Deputy Commissioner for Humanitarian Aid in the Red Sea State, said that Qatar Charity was one of the first organizations to provide tents to prepare schools for study, and provided urgent and continuous humanitarian support in the city, confirming the registration of all displaced children in the state’s various schools. Many displaced expressed their appreciation for the intervention that provided them with alternative shelter without obstructing the educational process. Mr. Montaser Taj Al-Sir said: “Qatar Charity has stood with us since we arrived at the shelter centers in July of last year.” For her part, Mrs. Nemat Muhammad Hanafi explained that the displaced people were concerned about the lack of adequate shelter immediately after leaving schools to resume the educational process, but thanks to the intervention of Qatar Charity, these fears have disappeared, and everyone is happy about the return of their children to education.
