Qatar Charity supports educational efforts in Gambia

As part of its support for education and Arab schools in The Gambia, Qatar Charity implemented two projects to serve educational efforts in The Gambia. The first project is to establish libraries in schools and universities, while the second project is to distribute school bags to students.

School bags were distributed in the presence of the Qatari Ambassador to Gambia, His Excellency Mr. Mohammed bin Ali Al Kuwari. The process of establishing libraries aims to raise the level of education in both the Banjul and Brikama regions.

Distribution of school bags

The school bag distribution project contributed to enhancing the access of students from low-income families to education. It also helped in enhancing attendance, encouraging school attendance, and motivating students to actively participate in the educational process.

 The number of beneficiaries of the school bag distribution reached 2,000 students in many schools.

The President of the Supreme Islamic Council of the Gambia, Sheikh Issa Foday Dabo, expressed his gratitude to the State of Qatar for its continued support of education in the Arabic language in the State of The Gambia, praising Qatar’s charity efforts in this field, and stating that 21% of students are enrolled in Arabic education. Dabo considered the distribution of school bags in Gambia an important step towards supporting education and motivating students to continue their educational path.

For his part, Mr. Mohamed Saleh, school principal, thanked Qatar Charity for its donation, which contributed to meeting the needs of the students, and appreciated the presence of the Qatari ambassador to his school to contribute to distributing bags to the targeted students.

Create libraries

In a related manner, the Qatar Charity team in the Gambia office implemented an initiative project to establish and establish public libraries in the Banjul and Western Coast regions, where the total number of beneficiaries reached 26,210 students. The number of university students was estimated at 5,100 students, while students in other educational levels reached 21,110, and books were distributed in coordination with the Council. The Supreme Islamic Council in the Gambia has a number of important universities, institutes and schools, such as the International Universities of Al-Amanah, Al-Hikma, Al-Ihsan, and the International Islamic Open University.

Publishing the Arabic language

In this context, the Director of the Solidarity School, Mr. Ibrahim Janmi, stressed the importance of the initiative of the project to establish and establish public libraries in The Gambia in spreading awareness among students of knowledge in support of the educational process and spreading the use of the Arabic language, especially in countries that do not speak it, as well as encouraging reading and studying among the targeted students in the major universities and schools in which It is taught in the Arabic language by providing the necessary books, establishing the culture of reading in the Arabic language, and encouraging interaction with it to improve the academic and intellectual level of the targeted students.

While the student Muhammad Kaba Musa at the Imam Malik Institute, who is beneficiary of the project, pointed out that Qatar Charity is one of the few organizations interested in spreading education and enlightenment in The Gambia through its interest in spreading the language of the Qur’an. Calling for the continuation of this type of important educational projects.
