Funded by Qatar Fund for Development (QFFD), Qatar's Charge d'Affaires Abdullah bin Rashid Al Mohanadi, along with representatives from the Humanitarian Aid Commission, Qatar Charity, and the Qatar Red Crescent Society (QRCS), received three shipments of urgent aid at Port Sudan Airport for families affected by flash floods and rains in Sudan. This is part of Qatar's significant humanitarian efforts in the region.
Mr. Al-Sadiq Adam Ibrahim, representative of the Federal Humanitarian Aid Commission, expressed his appreciation for Qatar’s swift response and continuous support for families affected by war, floods, and rains. Upon receiving the first shipment of Qatari aid at Port Sudan Airport, he stated, "We extend our thanks to the people and government of Qatar for their exceptional support. They have consistently stood by their brothers in Sudan, and we pray that this assistance will positively contribute to easing the suffering of our people in Sudan."
Mr. Mushaal Naser AlHajeri, head of the Monitoring and Rapid Response Section at Qatar Charity, which, alongside QRCS, coordinates and delivers aid to affected families on the ground, stated that Qatar Charity, as always, has remained at the forefront of providing aid to our brothers in any crisis they face worldwide. In brief remarks at Port Sudan Airport, he said, " These are the airlift planes to assist our brothers in Sudan following the flash floods and heavy rains that have affected the Northern State and the Nile River State." He added, "We will continue to support our brothers in Sudan to help them overcome this ordeal."
Mr. Hamad Abdul Wahab, Director of the Emergency Department at the Humanitarian Aid Commission, stated – while receiving the third Qatari aid plane through Qatari organizations operating in Sudan for those affected by floods and heavy rains—that Qatar Charity has always been implementing projects in all emergencies in Sudan, including floods, rains, wars, and extending support to internally displaced persons (IDPs), in addition to its work in reconstruction projects during peacetime.
He added “Qatar Charity has been generous to the affected Sudanese, providing food and medical aid. It has consistently been one of the first organizations we turn to for humanitarian assistance, particularly during emergencies this autumn.”
For his part, Mr. Tareq Mohiuddin, Acting Director of Qatar Charity’s office in Sudan, announced the arrival of approximately 430 tents from QFFD, which will be distributed through Qatar Charity and QRCS. The shipments also included thousands of mattresses and blankets provided by Qatar Charity. He noted that Qatar Charity has always been present with such remarkable efforts in addressing disasters and mitigating crises in Sudan. He added that this substantial support from QFFD aims to help those affected by the floods and heavy rains in the Northern State and Nile River State, specifically in the hardest-hit areas of Merowe and Abu Hamad.
