Qatar Charity launches campaign for flood victims amid urgent crises

9/9/2024

In response to the urgent humanitarian crises caused by devastating floods in several countries, Qatar Charity (QC) has launched the ‘Rescue Flood Victims’ campaign for four flood-affected countries (Yemen, Sudan, Mali, and Niger). The campaign aims to gather support from generous donors to provide essential aid to flood victims in the areas food, shelter, healthcare, education, and water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH).

The campaign seeks to provide life-saving humanitarian aid. In the shelter and non-food sector, the aid will include shelter and housing for the affected, along with mattresses, blankets, and hygiene kits. In the food sector, the campaign will focus on delivering ready-to-eat meals, family-size food packages, and vital nutrition for children and pregnant women.

In the health sector, the campaign plans to offer medical services for those injured by the floods, support for hospitals, ambulances, and mobile clinics, as well as primary healthcare services, life-saving medications, and therapeutic nutrition interventions, in addition to repairing and reconstructing damaged healthcare facilities.

In the WASH sector, the campaign will provide clean drinking water, sanitation services, and personal hygiene supplies. It will also include alternative energy sources and fuel to keep WASH facilities operational, in addition to repairing and rebuilding damaged infrastructure.

The aid will also include support for education by providing psychological and social support in schools, organizing recreational activities, and repairing damaged schools.

The heavy rains and floods, intensified by the effects of climate change, have caused widespread destruction in these countries. Hundreds have lost their lives, thousands have been displaced, and countless homes and infrastructure have suffered severe damage. The affected populations are facing acute shortages of food, medicine, and shelter. Additionally, contaminated water and deteriorating sanitation services have increased the risk of waterborne diseases, posing a significant threat to public health.

Given the dire conditions faced by flood victims, Qatar Charity calls on benefactors in Qatar to continue their support for the ‘Rescue Flood Victims’ campaign, which aims to provide essential food, shelter, healthcare, hygiene supplies, and clean drinking water to those in need.
