1/15/2025

Qatar Charity continues its vital mission to improve healthcare services in Somalia, with the support of generous donors from Qatar.

Qatar charity is currently operating the Tarkinely Health Center in the Kowajdi area, which provides comprehensive medical care to approximately 30,000 people from vulnerable communities.

In addition, Qatar Charity has signed a strategic partnership agreement with the Ministry of Health in Galmudug state to establish and equip four new health centers across the region.

Operating the Tarkinely Health Center

The Tarkinely Health Center offers a wide range of healthcare services, including outpatient clinics, maternal and childcare, emergency medical services, first aid, a laboratory, and a pharmacy. The center also organizes vaccination campaigns and health awareness initiatives, playing a key role in improving the overall health of the local community.

A highly trained medical and administrative team operates the center to ensure high-quality service delivery. This initiative addresses the critical shortage of healthcare facilities in the region, with a particular focus on reducing maternal and child mortality rates and enhancing the health and well-being of the population.

Dr. Abdulrahman Abdullah, Health Officer for the Benadir region, highlighted the immense importance of the project, emphasizing its role in significantly contributing to the reduction of maternal and child mortality rates. He extended his sincere thanks to the donors for their support in establishing the center, which aligns with the Somali government’s health policies aimed at improving national health outcomes and fostering sustainable healthcare development.

Dr. Abdullah also underscored the importance of the partnership between humanitarian organizations and government institutions in achieving these goals.

Making a Tangible Difference

The beneficiaries of the project have expressed their appreciation for the operation of the center. Mrs. Anab Salem Mohammed, a mother of three children, shared her relief: "Previously, we had to travel long distances to reach the nearest health center. Now, accessing healthcare has become much easier and more convenient."

Similarly, Mrs. Nasra Adam Ibrahim, a mother of two, expressed her gratitude: "I am extremely satisfied with the quality of services provided by this center, as well as the care and attention the medical staff give to our children’s health. We are deeply thankful to all those who contributed to the construction and operation of this facility, which has significantly reduced our struggles."

Establishment of 4 New Health Centers

In a further development, Mr. Abdul Fattah Adam Maalim, Director of Qatar Charity's office in Somalia, and Dr. Abdulwali Abdullah Jama, Minister of Health and Social Welfare for Galmudug, signed a strategic partnership agreement through which Qatar Charity will establish and equip four new health centers in the region.

As part of this agreement, the first center will be built in Galkayo city, covering an area of 400 square meters and featuring multiple departments and clinics. The second center will be in Gariel city, with a similar area to serve the local population. A specialized maternity unit will also be established in Qansah Dir (Mudug region) with a total area of 150 square meters, while a comprehensive health center will be built in Abdouwak city, spanning 1,120 square meters and offering a wide range of specialized healthcare services.

Commenting on the agreement, Mr. Abdul Fattah Adam Maalim said, "This partnership is part of Qatar Charity’s broader commitment to supporting the Somali people across various sectors, with a particular focus on healthcare, which is fundamental to sustainable development. These new centers aim to significantly improve the quality of healthcare available to citizens in the Galmudug state."

Dr. Abdulwali Abdullah Jama also expressed his gratitude, praising Qatar Charity’s ongoing support for Somalia's health sector and highlighting the vital role of Qatari donors.
