Launch of the Qatari Air Bridge to Gaza for the Delivery of Vital Medical Aid and Supplies

2/4/2025

As part of its ongoing and unwavering support for the Palestinian people, the State of Qatar has launched an air bridge from Jordan to the Gaza Strip to address the urgent humanitarian and medical needs of the population, who are enduring extremely difficult conditions. This initiative follows the land bridge Qatar established earlier.

The event was attended by senior officials, including Her Excellency Mrs. Mariam bint Ali Al-Misnad, Minister of State for International Cooperation; His Excellency Sheikh Saud bin Nasser Al-Thani, Ambassador of the State of Qatar to Jordan; Mr. Yousef bin Ahmed Al-Kuwari, CEO of Qatar Charity; and representatives from the Qatar Development Fund and Qatar Red Crescent. This reflects Qatar's deep and ongoing commitment to humanitarian support for the people of Gaza.

Her Excellency the Minister of State for International Cooperation also attended the signing of an agreement between Qatar Charity and the Jordan Hashemite Charity Organization to facilitate the entry of Qatari humanitarian aid.

The agreement ensures cooperation between both parties in the safe and organized transportation and distribution of aid.

The delivery of this aid is timely, as the Gaza Strip is experiencing a severe health crisis due to a critical shortage of medicines and medical supplies. Statistics indicate that many hospitals and healthcare centers in Gaza are struggling to provide adequate care due to significant shortages of essential medications and supplies. The sector faces a deficit of up to 49.6% in essential medicines and 33% in necessary medical supplies, placing immense pressure on healthcare workers who are already operating under extremely challenging conditions.

This initiative will play a key role in stabilizing the healthcare situation by improving patient care, reducing the spread of epidemics and infectious diseases, and ensuring the availability of essential medications, particularly antibiotics. Furthermore, it will enhance the capacity of hospitals and healthcare centers to provide more efficient and effective care, alleviating the burden on medical staff.

In addition to medicines, the provision of tents will significantly boost Qatar Charity’s ability to assist families who have lost their homes due to the ongoing attacks, providing them with temporary shelter in a safe environment until conditions improve.

On this occasion, Her Excellency Mrs. Mariam bint Ali Al-Misnad, Minister of State for International Cooperation, stated: "Since the beginning of the truce, Qatar has delivered 65 trucks of humanitarian aid through the Jordanian border. Today, we are witnessing the launch of two helicopter flights carrying vital medical supplies to northern Khan Younis."
She emphasized that this aid is part of the ongoing collaboration between the Qatar Development Fund, Qatar Charity, and Qatar Red Crescent.

Her Excellency further added that Qatar has provided 20,000 tents, which were shipped via a land bridge from Qatar to the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan. Efforts are now underway, in cooperation with the Jordan Hashemite Charity Organization, to distribute them to those in need in northern Gaza.

Mr. Yousef bin Ahmed Al-Kuwari, CEO of Qatar Charity, also commented: "Following the establishment of the joint committee for Qatari aid to Gaza, which includes representatives from the Qatar Development Fund, Qatar Charity, and Qatar Red Crescent, Qatar Charity has been entrusted with managing the delivery of aid. Today, we are at King Abdullah Airbase in the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan to initiate the delivery of essential medical supplies to Gaza via the Jordanian air bridge. We are also launching land convoys through the Jordanian corridor, in partnership with the Jordan Hashemite Charity Organization, which will include tents for sheltering families in Gaza. In parallel, and to effectively manage and organize the expected aid, we have secured a 4,000-square-meter storage facility for Qatari aid, including 1,000 square meters of refrigerated space, in partnership with the Military Consumer Corporation."
