Qatar Charity (QC) distributed the first batch of aid to displaced families in the southern Gaza Strip under its ‘How Long’ winter campaign. The aid, which came with the generous support of donors in Qatar, included blankets and winter clothing.
The aid was provided to ease the harsh cold and bring warmth to children and displaced families, coinciding with the drop in temperatures and rainfall in Gaza a few days ago. The heavy rains flooded the tents of the displaced, causing significant damage in the central and southern Gaza Strip.
This aid is part of the ‘Urgent Aid Distribution for Displaced Families in Gaza’ project, in collaboration with the team of MERCY Worldwide, an NGO. The project provides life-saving food and non-food assistance to alleviate the suffering of displaced families during the winter. The aid distributed so far as part of this project includes over 4,600 blankets, 18,000 winter clothing packages, and shoes for both children and adults. Additionally, the project will also distribute 6,000 food packages.
The beneficiaries expressed their heartfelt thanks to the generous people of Qatar for their timely support, particularly in light of the shortage of winter supplies and the severe cold.
Qatar Charity launched the ‘How Long’ relief campaign for the 2024-2025 winter season last month, aiming to deliver humanitarian aid worth QR 72 million across 25 countries, including Qatar, with a special focus on crisis-affected regions.
Given the severe humanitarian conditions in crisis and disaster-affected regions, where the onset of winter exacerbates the suffering of those impacted, the campaign will prioritize providing aid to these regions. Special focus will be placed on Palestine, Lebanon, Sudan, Yemen, and northern Syria, in addition to regions experiencing extreme cold worldwide.
Qatar Charity urges individuals and companies in Qatar to support the winter campaign to reach as many needy people as possible, especially internally displaced persons (IDPs), refugees, and the vulnerable.
Generous individuals can donate to the campaign through Qatar Charity's website (https://qch.qa/winterEn) or make direct donations at Qatar Charity’s branches and collection points across the country. Donations can also be made via the hotline: 44290000. Additionally, a mobile collection representative can be requested to reach donors wherever they are.
