Qatar Charity holds Sports Day Marathon

Qatar Charity (QC), in conjunction with Qatar National Sports Day, held a marathon, in cooperation with Al Rami Sport Club, Qatar Women's Sport Committee, ‘Be_fit180o’ team, and Naseem Al-Rabeeh Medical Cente.

The marathon was attended by CEO's Assistant for the International Operations and Programmes sector at Qatar Charity Nawaf Al Hammadi and taken part in by more than 200 participants from various schools and volunteer initiatives, in addition to many officials of Qatar Charity and its partners.  

The marathon was organized by the Qatar Charity Center for Community Development in Al Khor at Al Rami Sport Club in Lusail, where the three groups of the participants, which are children, adolescents, and youth, took part in the one-km, two-and-half km, and five-km race.

The schools and initiatives that participated in the marathon included Abdullah bin Ali Al-Misnad Secondary School for Boys, Al-Khor Model School for Boys, and the ‘Hour and Hour’ initiative.

The CEO's Assistant for the International Operations and Programmes sector at Qatar Charity Nawaf Al Hammadi honored the first three winners of each category with valuable prizes, in addition to honoring all the participants and partners.

The head of the Local Projects department at Qatar Charity Fareed Khaleel Al-Siddieqy, said that the marathon comes as part of Qatar Charity's keenness to participate in national events, emphasize the importance of sports in building a healthy society, and contribute to promote the culture of sports. Al-Siddieqy also thanked the partners and participants for their support in holding the marathon. 

The Executive Director of the Qatar Women's Sport Committee Amna al-Qasimi, praised the fruitful cooperation between Qatar Charity and the Qatar Women's Sports Committee in organizing the marathon and implementing various other programs, including the ‘Big Winner’ program for primary school students.  She also noted that the committee aims to reflect the interaction of Qatari women and their support for sporting events held in the country, as the committee believes in the importance of community participation.

“At a time which makes us highly dependent on technology and make us chained to our desks and gadgets, sports pulls us back to activities,” said Dr. Divya Geeta, an orthopedic surgeon at Naseem Al-Rabeeh Medical Center. She also emphasized the importance of regular exercise, appreciating Qatar Charity's efforts in implementing awareness programs and sports activities such as walking and marathons.

"We do not overlook the role of Qatar Charity in the field of sports, said the ‘Be_fit180o’ team coach Noura Al-Thawadi, indicating that Qatar Charity provided the opportunity to participate in sports programs that benefit community. She noted that the team contributed to supporting the marathon and preparing children for the event.

The founder of the ‘Hour and Hour’ initiative Tamani Al-yafei, explained that a healthy mind resides in a healthy body, underscoring the importance of maintaining a healthy body through proper nutrition and appropriate exercise.
