Field teams from Qatar Charity in Sudan have begun distributing Ramadan food baskets to orphans, needy families, and displaced people due to the ongoing conflict, as part of their "Giving Lives On" campaign for the year 1446H (2025). This campaign is being implemented in 40 countries worldwide.
Qatar Charity has already distributed food baskets in Port Sudan, located in the Red Sea State, containing essential food items to support fasting individuals during the holy month of Ramadan. The initiative has been widely appreciated by Sudanese communities. Qatar Charity's iftar project continues to assist approximately 4.5 million people in need across Africa, Asia, and Europe this year.
The Iftar project is designed to support orphaned families sponsored by Qatar Charity, as well as non-sponsored orphans, displaced people due to the war, and other vulnerable families, by providing them with essential food supplies during Ramadan. These food baskets are tailored to meet the specific dietary needs of fasting individuals during the blessed month.
Qatar Charity will continue distributing Ramadan food baskets in the coming days, aiming to bring joy and relief to the targeted communities. A total of 2,380 baskets are expected to be distributed to 14,280 beneficiaries across the Red Sea, Kassala, and Nile River States.
Appreciation for the Support from the People of Qatar
Rehab Sharif, the shelter supervisor at the Humanitarian Aid Commission, expressed her heartfelt gratitude while observing the distribution of Ramadan baskets. "Qatar Charity has provided extensive support to various shelters, especially during the blessed month of Ramadan. Their efforts have made a significant impact in assisting displaced people, patients, and orphans," she said.
Several mothers of orphans and displaced families in Port Sudan also expressed their thanks after receiving the Ramadan food baskets, which were thoughtfully prepared to align with Sudanese food culture during Ramadan. They were deeply appreciative of the support from the people of Qatar, noting that the baskets met their Ramadan food needs and helped them observe fasting under challenging circumstances due to the aftermath of the conflict.
Somiya Issa Yacoub, mother of orphan "Ashjan," shared how the distribution of food baskets to orphan mothers by Qatar Charity has been a blessing, particularly this year amid difficult economic conditions. "We are in dire need of this support, and we pray that Allah rewards those who have extended their help," she said.
The mother of orphan "Heba Allah" explained how the direct financial and in-kind assistance, such as the food baskets, has helped orphans live with dignity. She emphasized the deep-rooted values of solidarity and selflessness that persist within Sudanese society despite the hardships. "In these tough living conditions, we share the food we receive from Qatar Charity with families in even worse situations than ours, including those who are not sponsored," she added.
