Humanitarian Assistance for Flood Victims in Morocco

3/13/2025

With the support of donors and in line with the holy month of Ramadan, Qatar Charity has provided a package of humanitarian aid to affected and needy families in the Tata region of the Kingdom of Morocco. This region was hit by floods last September, resulting in both human and material losses. The assistance aims to improve their living conditions. In parallel, aid was also provided to people with disabilities and vulnerable women to enhance their social and economic inclusion.

A total of around 34,400 people have benefited from these aids.

Types of Aid
The humanitarian aid provided to the flood-affected families included water purification devices and supplies to ensure access to safe drinking water, clothes for children and women, blankets to protect against the cold, blood pressure monitors for patients, solar-powered lamps for families facing electricity shortages, portable heaters to cope with the cold weather, kitchenware, and desks and chairs for children to improve education in remote areas. Additionally, wheelchairs (manual and electric) were provided for people with disabilities. Widows, divorced women, and wives of prisoners were also given sewing machines to help them achieve financial independence.

Women's Cooperatives
The humanitarian aid was distributed to nomadic families during an official ceremony at the Labor Headquarters, attended by the Governor of Tata Province. This event aimed to improve the living conditions of beneficiaries and enhance their means of dignified living. Qatar Charity also visited the multifunctional space for women in Tata and Aqaa, where sewing machines were distributed to women in women's cooperatives. These women, who face vulnerability and hardship, are trained in various trades, including sewing, and are provided with income-generating projects to help improve their living conditions and support their families.

People with Disabilities
In connection with this initiative, electric and manual wheelchairs were distributed to centers for the integration of people with disabilities. Mr. Osman Maysar, the head of one of the local institutions, expressed his deep gratitude upon receiving the wheelchairs from Qatar Charity, highlighting that this contribution would greatly improve the lives of the beneficiaries and grant them greater independence in movement.

He emphasized the importance of investing in projects for people with disabilities as an essential step in enabling them to actively participate in society. He added, "We thank Qatar Charity and the generous donors in Qatar for their substantial support, as they have brought smiles to the faces of many children and offered them the opportunity for a life of dignity and hope."

For his part, and on the sidelines of the initiative, Mohammed Abu Hulub, Director of Qatar Charity’s office in Morocco, confirmed that these efforts are part of Qatar Charity's commitment to supporting vulnerable groups and enhancing their means of dignified living. He added, "We are committed to continuing our humanitarian and developmental efforts in partnership with local national institutions to improve the lives of needy families and strengthen the economic and social independence of the most vulnerable groups. We hope that these initiatives will contribute to creating sustainable positive changes in the lives of the beneficiaries."
