Qatar Charity’s Ramadan campaign “Calm Your Heart by Giving” kicks off

 

The campaign is to be implemented within Qatar and other 30 countries worldwide at an estimated amount of 119 million Qatari riyals, targeting nearly 2.4 million persons, with the support of people in Qatar.

Qatar Charity (QC) has announced the launch of its Ramadan campaign for the current year 1441/2020 under the slogan ‘Calm Your Heart by Giving’. The campaign is to be implemented within Qatar and other 30 countries worldwide at an estimated amount of 119 million Qatari riyals, targeting nearly 2.4 million persons, with the support of people in Qatar.

Qatar Charity has taken into consideration public safety and precautionary measures in its Ramadan projects and donation methods, aiming to fight the spread of coronavirus (COVID-19). Accordingly, only food baskets and Iftar meals will be distributed in and outside Qatar to feed fasting persons, using cars designated for this purpose, due to coronavirus.

Qatar Charity’s website, app, and various other digital tools enable generous donors to pay their zakat and make charity easily while they are at their homes.

 

Campaign’s Projects

The Ramadan campaign includes three main seasonal projects: Iftar of fasting persons, "food baskets and meals", the distribution of zakat al-Fitr, and Eid Clothes. It will also include special assistance to fight the coronavirus inside and outside Qatar, in addition to media programs in Arabic, English, and Urdu, in cooperation with various media outlets in the country. Besides, there will be remote voluntary projects and events.

On the advent of the holy month of Ramadan, Qatar Charity congratulated the Qatari people, residents, and Arab and Islamic nations, thanking them for their continued support.

 

Fatwa on Expediting of Paying Zakat for the Next One or Two Years

In light of the circumstances experienced by humankind in general and Islamic nations in particular, due to the coronavirus, the majority of jurists allowed the expediting of paying zakat for the next one or two years.

They noted that feeding a fasting person in Ramadan also includes providing food basket containing basic foodstuffs, vegetables and meat and others. Rather, providing food baskets may be more beneficial to those in need.

Ramadan Projects inside Qatar

The Ramadan projects of Qatar Charity implemented in Qatar target 420,900 persons at a cost of 34,029,352 Qatari riyals. These projects include the mobile Iftar, which contains Iftar meals and food baskets for workers, in addition to Ramadan supplies for families with limited income.

The social Ramadan projects implemented in Qatar include Eid clothing for the children of low-income families, Eid gifts for orphans, and Zakat Al Fitr, in addition to projects to encourage volunteering and voluntary initiatives, and empower low-income families by training via remote technologies.

This year’s Ramadan projects also include assistance for those affected by coronavirus (COVID-19), including workers and low-income families. 

 

 

A- Iftar Projects (Mobile Iftar)

 

1 - Iftar Meals for Workers

 Complete Iftar meals are distributed to workers through cars; each worker will receive an Iftar meal.

Target: 213,300 People

Total cost: QR 4,266,000

Places of Distributions: 20 Locations across Qatar

 

2  - Food Baskets for Workers

The baskets include basic foodstuffs distributed to workers, with each basket having food items for a worker for the month of Ramadan.

Target: 20,000  People

Total cost: QR 4,000,000

Places of Distributions: Farms and Commercial Companies.

 

3 – Mobile Iftar

This Iftar involves the distribution of snacks in many places to drivers who are not able to reach their homes to break their fasting.

Target: 21,000 People

Total cost: QR 231,000

Places of Distributions: Various Places

 

4 – Ramadan Supply

The project provides essential foodstuffs for the month of Ramadan to families with limited income, the families of orphans and widows through the distribution of coupons by Qatar Charity.

Target: 28,000 People

B- Social Assistance

 

1 – Eid Clothing for Children of Low-Income Families

Qatar Charity provides financial assistance to low-income families to purchase clothes for their children.

Target: 450 Children

Total Cost: QR 186,750

 

2 – Eidi (Gift) for Orphans

Eidi is a kind of gift. Qatar Charity gives this gift to the sponsored orphans on Eid al-Fitr

Target: 450 Children

Total Cost: QR 186,750

 

3 – Zakat al-Fitr

It is given to low-income families on Eid al-Fitr.

Target: 2500 People (500 Families)

Total Cost: QR 1,477,230

 

C – Aid to Fight Coronavirus (COVID-19)

This an assistance to meet the needs of families with low incomes and migrant workers whose living conditions have been affected by coronavirus. The assistance valued at QR 20 million is expected to benefit 130,000 people.

 

Link to Provide Aid

Qatar Charity will launch a link to provide aid and food baskets, in cooperation with Al Meera Consumer Goods Company. The link will be announced on various social media platforms to facilitate the request for assistance from different groups of society.

 

Ramadan Projects outside Qatar

Qatar Charity, through its field offices and partners worldwide, will implement three Ramadan projects, which are Feed a Fasting Person, Zakat Al Fitr, and Eid Clothing, in nearly 30 countries of the world.

Qatar Charity also intends to distribute relief food aid in areas of disasters and crises to meet the food needs of the displaced and refugees during the holy month, in addition to delivering assistance to those affected by coronavirus.

Qatar Charity, with the support of donors in Qatar, aims to benefit 1,960,028 people at an estimated cost of 85,140,826 Qatari riyals.

 

1 - Fasting Person Project

(Ready-to-Eat Iftar Meals & Food Baskets)

The project includes ready-to-eat Iftar meals and food baskets that contain essential foodstuffs for a poor family for the month of Ramadan.

Target: 524,396 People

Total Cost: QR 15,901,756

Countries: 27 Countries

 

2 – Zakat al-Fitr

The distribution of Zakat al-Fitr aims at reducing the financial burden on poor families.

Target: 341,583 People

Total Cost: QR 5,123,070

Countries: 23 countries

 

3 – Eid Clothing

 This project provides clothes to orphans sponsored by Qatar Charity on Eid al-Fitr.

Target: 3,355 People

Total Cost: QR 671,000

Countries: 25 Countries

 

4 – Food Assistance to Crisis-Stricken Areas

Food aid will be provided for the displaced, the affected and refugees in crisis-stricken zones.

Target: 840,694 People

Total Cost: QR 23,445,000

Countries: Syria, Neighboring Countries of Asylum, Yemen, Palestine, Somalia, and Others.

 

5 – Aid for Those Affected by Coronavirus

Target: 250,000 People

Total Cost: QR 40,000,000

This aid includes health and food assistance, the improvement of living conditions of those affected by the coronavirus, and are to implemented during the holy month of Ramadan.
