During the past 10 years, Qatar Charity, with support from the people in Qatar, has implemented 1,462 relief and development projects in Gaza, which benefited more than 8 million individuals and families.
Benefactors in Qatar can contribute to the implementation of more development projects for the people of Gaza through the campaign "Gaza, the Right to Live".
More than 8 million Palestinian people have benefited from various Relief and Development Projects and social welfare services implemented by Qatar Charity (QC) in the Gaza Strip during the last 10 years (2008-2018) to meet their basic needs amidst the ongoing humanitarian crisis and high rates of poverty and unemployment.
These projects and services have been a top priority for Qatar Charity, as they, directly and indirectly, benefited 800,000 individuals and families annually.
QC’s Office in Gaza
Qatar Charity has been operating in Palestine in general and in the Gaza Strip in particular since the 1990s. The charity has a field office in Gaza, which directly oversees its projects, ensures its quick intervention in times of crisis, and cooperates with international, regional and local humanitarian partners to implement major development projects.
During the period 2008-2018, Qatar Charity, with support from the people of Qatar, managed to implement 1,462 relief and development projects in several areas, which were carried out in cooperation and partnership with international organizations and supporting bodies at a cost of QR662mn, and benefited more than 8 million individuals and families.
Health and Educational Projects
In the field of social welfare, the number of orphans, poor families, people with special needs, and teachers sponsored by Qatar Charity has reached 15,000 persons. The orphans constitute the largest number of those sponsored by the charity.
In the field of education, Qatar Charity has implemented 19 projects, which benefited more than 306,000 people. The projects included, but were not limited to, the construction of schools, the establishment of scientific laboratories and the provision of solar energy to 60 schools in the Gaza Strip.
The number of health projects implemented by Qatar Charity during the last 10 years has reached 24 projects, which benefited 1.8 million people. These projects included medical equipment, medical assistance, medical consumables, laboratory materials, generators for hospitals, generator fuel, and transportation for dialysis patients, in addition to the establishment of the ambulance and emergency station. Through these projects, the charity has tried to meet the needs of the wounded and patients, especially with the difficulty of transferring patients to other countries for their treatment.
Relief Projects
Qatar Charity has implement 31 relief projects, which benefited about 383,000 families. These projects included food basket, drinking water and cash assistance for needy families and others. At the level of construction and rehabilitation projects, the total number of beneficiaries reached 11,000 families.
Qatar Charity supported the rehabilitation of severely destroyed industrial establishments, which benefited more than 1.5 people. This project included the rehabilitation of factories, workshops, mills and other damaged facilities, which have lost their equipment and machines.
Also, Qatar Charity has implemented 55 seasonal projects, which benefited about 761,000 families. These projects included Udhiya and feeding fasting persons, Eid clothing, Zakat Al Fitr projects.
Economic Empowerment Projects
Qatar Charity has implemented 5 projects to support the municipal sector of the Gaza Strip, which benefited about 2 million people. The projects included the filtration of rainwater, the construction of the slaughterhouse in the municipality of Khan Younis, and another government building, as well as the implementation of the winter project entitled "Shitaum Shtauna".
The charity also implemented 4 multi-service projects, which benefited about 50,000 people, in addition to the implementation of 7 projects, related to the construction of mosques, for the benefit of18,000 people.
In the social field, about 14 projects were implemented, which included food baskets and support for poor families, empowerment project and cash assistance, benefiting 373,000 people.
In the field of agriculture, 6 different projects have been implemented, benefiting 48,000 citizens. The projects included the rehabilitation of agricultural land and drilling of wells, in addition to bringing electricity and water connections to remote agricultural areas.
Qatar Charity has funded 1,250 income-generating projects to benefit 11,000 families, which included sewing machines, fishing boats, opening salons and groceries and providing vehicles.
As many as 800,000 people benefited from 6 water and sanitation projects, including drilling projects, which have been implemented by Qatar Charity.
The Need Still Exists
In view of the continued suffering of the people in Gaza, there is still a greater need to strengthen the development efforts in order to meet their living needs. For this reason, Qatar Charity provides the opportunity to benefactors and good doers to contribute to the implementation of a package of humanitarian projects within the framework of the "Gaza, the Right to Live" campaign, which will continue until October 20.
