Executive Director of Local Development assured, “More than 2 million people will benefit from our ramadan projects in 1438H, at a cost of about QR 31 million.”

Qatar Charity (QC) has launched its campaign for this year’s Ramadan season entitled “Give and Shine Through”. The estimated total cost for projects to be implemented inside and outside Qatar, during the Holy Month of Ramadan 1438H, is QR 31 million, and the number of beneficiaries is expected to reach over 2 million people.

QC held a press conference at Al Jazeera Cafe in the cultural district of Katara to announce launching the campaign. It was run by Mr. Ahmed Al Ali, Director of the Media Department at QC, who started by giving thanks to the social networks and the media for supporting QC’s projects and campaigns. Also, the Executive Director of Local Development at QC and the Chairman of the Ramadan Projects Committee, Ali Atiq al-Abdullah, and a number of directors of various departments in QC have participated in the press conference.

The campaign includes three main projects: Iftar meals, Eid clothing and Zakat al-Fitr, as well as a range of public and religious projects in Qatar, and media programs broadcast through the media and social networks.

The estimated cost of projects outside Qatar is about QR 15 million and is expected to benefit more than 1.1 million people. similarly, the estimated budget for Ramadan projects in Qatar is about QR 16 million, benefiting more than 900,000 people.

Congratulation

Ali Atiq al-Abdullah, on behalf of QC, congratulated the people of Qatar and the Arab and Islamic nations, praying for having a good and rewarding Ramadan and reminding them not to forget their brethren with need. He also stimulated them to help people in this month with their generosity and giving, based on the words of the Almighty, “And if any one saved a life, it would be as if he saved the life of the whole people.”

Giving a hand

He urged benefactors and donors to lend their brothers a helping hand by donating to Qatar relief and development projects inside and outside Qatar, such as relief to the Syrian people, orphans and Needy Families Sponsorship, educational and health projects and income-generating projects so as to support the beneficiaries.

Internal projects

QC's projects in Qatar include a wide variety of Ramadan Iftar projects, and watering, and they extend to popular and cultural programs and challenging projects that allow for competition among the youth volunteer teams in cooperation and partnership with a number of related parties. Some of which are being implemented for the first time, while others have been developed. The most important of these projects are:

Fast Breaking Dinners

The number of fasting meals held or supported by QC is 23 group tables. They are distributed throughout the country for the sake of single workers, wayfarers, and low-income individuals. QC has fully taken the responsibility for completely offering 20 tables, and helping to provide 3 other tables. It is expected that 170,670 people will benefit from these dining tables, at a cost of about QR 5.5 million.

The targeted areas of iftar include Al Khor, Smeisma, Khareteyat, Gharafa, Rayan, Shahaneya, Wakrah, Bin Mahmoud, Freij Abdul Azeez, Najma, Mansoura, Bit Omran, Matar, Seleya, Jmeileya, Um Salal Muhammed, Al Ruwais, and Al Kaaban.

There are some projects that go under the Iftar project. The most important of which are:

From Home to Home

A project that enables Qatari families to prepare Iftar meals for families with limited income to reach their homes. They will be about 9000 meals throughout the holy month.

Farms Workers Iftar

The farms workers gatherings are targeted in six regions of the country and breakfast meals will be served for 600 workers per day, bringing the total number of beneficiaries to 18,000.

Doha Industrial Area’s workers Iftar

The project focuses on the workers' gatherings in the industrial area, through dedicated cars to daily distribute breakfast meals. The project is expected to benefit 12,000 workers during Ramadan.

Ramadan Food Baskets

The project provides supply requirements of Ramadan for limited-income families through coupons distributed by QC or the referees. Supplies are received from the shopping malls at the beginning of Ramadan, targeting 1500 families.

Mobile Iftar

Targeting 15,000 fasting people, it provides light Iftar meals prepared by Qatari families who are in easy circumstances. The meals are distributed to motorists who hear sunset call to prayer before arriving at their homes.

SoQya, Providing Water to Prayers

The project daily distributes water to the prayers during Taraweeh and voluntary night prayer in 43 mosques. It targets more than 8064 worshipers, bringing the number of targeted throughout the holy month to 242.000 people.

Public and Cultural projects

Youth entrepreneurship competition "Entrepreneurship"

The idea is to encourage youth to compete in order to organize entrepreneurship activities to serve the community, and support Ramadan projects and external humanitarian projects, in cooperation with one of university student clubs and community development centers in QC, and then choose the best initiatives and honor who launch them.

Al- Baraha Programme for Communities

A public program that includes Iftar meals and a number of entertainment and awareness events for fostering values. It revolves around the children of communities living in Qatar and is expected to benefit 10,000 people in more than one community.

A Dialogue with Influential Figures in Ramadan

A weekly meeting in Katara throughout Ramadan, hosting a personality of intellectuals and writers, to discuss a cause of concern to the community with them, and seek to provide them solutions.

Believers

An activity held helping the community members to getused to adhere to the Prophetic Sunnah and good behaviors such as: visit the sick people, attend the funerals and feed the poor.

Cohabitation

A targeted activity for non-Muslim foreign people to familiarize them with the customs and traditions of Qatari society by organizing a day of cooperation with Muslims and engaging them in voluntary activities such as Iftar meals and visiting the gatherings.

Orphans' Gifts (Eideyas)

A celebration in which Eideya (an amount of money which is given in Eid) are distributed to orphans before Eid al-Fitr. In this regard, QC urges the public to donate money in order to put a smile on the faces of this group.

Projects outside Qatar

QC carries out its Ramadan projects in 37 countries around the world. These projects are divided into three main projects: Ramadan, Eid, and Zakat Al Fitr, with a value of about QR 15 million. More than 1.1 million people are expected to benefit from it, with a focus on countries which suffer from crises and disasters.

Iftar

The Iftar project is the largest of Ramadan projects, with a value of QR 10,031,451. It is expected that 952,889 people will benefit from the project, of which around QR 1.5 million will be allocated to the displaced and Syrian refugees. Besides, the allocations of Yemen, Somalia, Palestine, and Iraq are increased in these projects.

The target countries include: Bangladesh, Benin, Chad, Comoros, Côte d'Ivoire, Djibouti, Egypt, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Jordan, Kenya, Pakistan, Senegal, Sudan, Sudan, Burkina Faso, Mali, Nigeria, Iraq, Togo, United Kingdom, Lebanon, Morocco, Philippines, Bosnia, Kyrgyzstan, Tunisia, Kosovo, Albania and Turkey.

In addition, food has been allocated to affected people in Syria and Somalia (flour, bread, food baskets) worth more than QR 3.2 million, and is expected to benefit about 100,000 people.

Eid clothing

Benefiting 3786 orphans in 21 countries, Eid clothing project aims at gladdening the orphans sponsored by QC through offering them clothes before Eid al-Fitr, at an estimated cost of QR 378,600.

Zakat al-Fitr

QC is implementing this project, targeting 82,830 people in 33 countries across the world at an estimated cost of QR 1,242,457 in order to spread the joy among Muslims on the day of Eid al-Fitr, and to avail the needy.

QC held an event to honor its

High achieving orphan students gathered with their families and teaching stuff to celebrate success and to received awards at a special ceremony held by Qatar Charity in Kenya. This tradition has been always a prominent aspect of Qatar Charity’s sponsorship strategy to encourage brilliant orphans for their academic achievements.

Acknowledging their efforts raising these orphans, Qatar Charity also awarded the mothers for their continuous support to their kids despite their bad economic situations.

On this occasion, Mr. Mohamed Hussein, Qatar Charity’s Regional director in Kenya, addressed the students and encouraged them to put more efforts to maintain this academic excellence. He also thanked and praised their mothers for the role they play supporting their children.

At the honorary reception, bright orphan students and their mothers received awards and excellence certificates for the academic year 2016-2017.

Mrs. Hawa Harbi, on behalf of the attending mothers, delivered a speech saying “We deem the Qatari people as brothers and sisters who spare no efforts in advocating our cause and standing for our children” Mrs. Harbi also praised Qatar Charity’s dedication and support in promoting educational projects in the regions of Kenya.

New Sponsorships in Somalia:

As part of its social care mission, Qatar Charity has recently sponsored 655 poor families, 165 Quran Teachers, 127 Persons with Special Needs. Therefore, the total number of Qatar Charity’s sponsorships in Somalia has reached 1500 individual.

Through sponsorships and contributions in Somalia, Qatar Charity works to fight the devastating drought that has engulfed the African countries over the past years.

Qatar Charity continues to ease Syrians’ plight

During the last few years, Qatar Charity (QC), in cooperation and coordination with the Regulatory Authority for Charitable Activities (RACA) and in partnership with many organizations, have launched many Relief Campaigns to continue to Support Syrian people within their country and the countries of asylum.

These campaigns aimed at meeting the urgent needs of the Syrian people struggling to survive under challenging humanitarian situations.

Recently, a delegation from Qatar Charity has distributed the first batch of urgent aid directly to the displaced in the country, and refugees in Turkish areas bordering Syria, in view of one of the largest Syrian displacements since 2011. The aid included 200 tons of relief materials worth over 14 million riyals to benefit 864,618 people. Another delegation is expected to deliver the second batch of aid to the Syrian vulnerable.

It is worth mentioning that the ‘Arsal Relief’ campaign, launched last year by Qatar Charity under the supervision of RACA, has benefited hundreds of thousands of people in Syria and the countries of asylum, focusing on providing urgent relief to those affected by snowstorms, frost and rain.

Last year, the needs of the Syrian people within their country and in the countries of asylum amounted to nearly 9 billion dollars, of which only 4 billion dollars were raised, meaning that only 42% of the 2019 needs were met, according to a UN report.

It is worth mentioning that during the last three months, according to United Nations, more than 900,000 people, 80% of them women and children, have been displaced, in addition to half a million children, who have also been displaced.

Qatar Charity urges people to contribute to “Sham Deserves” campaign for Syrians

Qatar Charity (QC), urged people to contribute to the national campaign named “Shams Deserves” launched in partnership with the Qatar Media Corporation to Provide Urgent Relief Aid to Syrian people in their country and he countries of asylum.

The campaign came within the framework of moral and humanitarian duty in response to the worsening humanitarian situation following the largest displacement in Syria in the past three months.

Launched on February 19, 2020, under the supervision of the Regulatory Authority for Charitable Activities (RACA), the “Sham Deserves” campaign aims to deliver assistance to 250,000 Syrian refugees and displaced persons in the areas of shelter, food, water, sanitation, and health.

The campaign is implemented by Qatar Charity, in cooperation with the Qatar Media Corporation, Qatar Television, Qatar Radio, Sout Al Khaleej Radio, Alkass Sports Channels, Alrayyan TV, and Alrayyan Radio.

The campaign will include a joint live TV and radio broadcast on Friday and Saturday, February 28, and 29, 2020, by many media corporations to raise donations, in addition to some activities that will be held in commercial complexes.

Given the difficult humanitarian situation of Syrian refugees and internally displaced persons (IDPs), Qatar Charity urges benefactors in Qatar to contribute to the “Sham Deserves” campaign to ease their hardship, as they are struggling to survive under the very harsh cold weather, heavy rains, frosts, and snow. It also calls on media persons and social media influencers to publicize the campaign.

Benefactors can make their contributions to the campaign in many forms, including money, jewelry, and vehicle.

In conjunction with the campaign, a delegation from Qatar Charity has recently distributed urgent aid to the displaced in the country, and refugees in Turkish areas bordering Syria.

The aid included 200 tons of relief materials worth over 14 million riyals to benefit 864,618 people. Another delegation is scheduled to depart on Friday to provide a second batch of Aid to Syrian Refugees and displaced persons.

Qatar Charity: Humanitarian interventions and continuous partnerships for refugees

From 2019 to date, Qatar Charity has signed 16 agreements on refugee protection with several international organizations

Qatar Charity (QC) affirmed its continued keenness to ensure a dignified life for refugees throughout the world, and to work on easing their sorrow by implementing projects and initiatives through its field offices or in cooperation with partners like international and local organizations.

This comes on the World Refugee Day, which is observed June 20 each year to raise awareness of the situation of refugees throughout the world, and this year, the day is being observed under the theme “Every Action Counts”.

Qatar Charity's relief and humanitarian intervention included providing winter aid and basic assistance in the fields of food, shelter, health, education, water, and social cohesion.

These projects benefited refugees and internally displaced people from several countries including Syria, Yemen, Iraq, Myanmar, and Somalia, in addition to Rohingya refugees.

Achievements

The total cost of the projects implemented by Qatar Charity for refugees and the displaced from January 2019 to June 15, 2020 is nearly 581 million riyals, benefiting 8,240,585 people.

Syria received the largest portion of assistance provided by Qatar Charity during this period due to the tragic situation of the displaced and Syrian refugees. This assistance amounted to more than 314 million Qatari riyals and benefited nearly 2.8 million people.

International Partnerships

From 2019 to date, Qatar Charity has signed 16 agreements on refugee protection with several international organizations, namely the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), the International Organization for Migration (IOM), UNICEF and the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA). The affected of many countries such as Yemen, Bangladesh, and Syria, have benefited from these agreements.

It is worth mentioning that Qatar Charity is linked to a four-year strategic cooperation agreement signed with UNHCR in Geneva in 2017, which aims at providing financial resources for refugee relief projects, and jointly funding them by both parties, with at least 3 million dollars annually.

These agreements have targeted several areas such as health care, water, education, food, and livelihoods.

Fighting COVID-19

Qatar Charity (QC), since the outbreak of the coronavirus (COVID-19) epidemic, signed various cooperation agreements with several international organizations to contribute to the global efforts to limit the spread of the virus and provide emergency assistance to those affected, including refugees.

Qatar Charity, in cooperation with UNHCR, began providing emergency assistance to Syrian refugees throughout Lebanon in response to the humanitarian needs resulting from the spread of the coronavirus epidemic, as part of the $1.5 million signed between two parties.

Under the cooperation with the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), Qatar Charity has started to establish 14 community-based isolation units in northern Syria to benefit 2,800 people of camps at a total cost of US$1.6 million.

Qatar Charity worked with UNICEF to maintain access to safe drinking water and sanitation services for the benefit of Syrian refugees in Jordan. The value of the contribution amounted to one million US dollars, in addition to signing other agreements.

Largest Initiative

Last year, Qatar Charity launched the "For Humanity" initiative in cooperation with the UNHCR to provide aid to more than 300,000 refugees from Yemen, Iraq, Somalia, and Syria, in addition to Rohingya refugees in Bangladesh.

The ‘For Humanity (4H)’ is the Largest Humanitarian Relief initiative to provide emergency assistance to vulnerable refugees across the globe, and ensure they are safe, healthy and well-fed.

Sudan receives 7-ton shipment

Sudan receives 7-ton shipment of medical aid from Qatar Charity

Sudan received a plane with a seven-ton shipment of Medical Aid worth two million riyals from Qatar Charity (QC), in cooperation with Sudanese working in Qatar. The aid included personal protective equipment and materials for the medical staff working on the COVID-19 frontline in the country.

The federal Minister of Health, Dr. Akram Ali Al-Toam, received the assistance on Saturday at the Khartoum Airport, in the presence of Acting Charge d'Affairs to the Embassy of the State of Qatar in Sudan Talal Farhan Al Anzi.

The minister thanked the State of Qatar's government, people, and Qatar Charity for their permanent standing with Sudan and providing them with the aid that would protect the health personnel working on the COVID-19 frontline from infection, underlining that the relationship between the two countries is historic.

He also noted that Qatar has been supportive of Sudan in the Cholera Control Campaign, has always provided aid, and still is delivering financial and technical assistance.

Acting Charge d'Affairs to the Embassy of the State of Qatar in Sudan Talal Farhan Al Anzi pointed out that this assistance comes within the framework of the distinguished relations between the two brotherly countries and fraternal ties between the State of Qatar and Sudan. He also affirmed the State of Qatar's leadership commitment to enhancing those relations in the interest of both countries.

The Director of the office of Qatar Charity in Khartoum, Mr. Hussein Karmash, said the shipment includes100,000 surgical masks, 200,000 gloves, 30,000 protective suits, 5,000 face shields, and 5,000 medical shoes, 30,000 headgear, and 100,000 face masks.

Sudan Humanitarian Aid Commissioner Abbas Fadlallah thanked Qatar Charity for supporting the health sector in Sudan, pointing out that the State of Qatar has always stood with the country to confront disasters.

For his part, Engineer Yasser Sabir, the General Secretary of the Engineers Association and a representative of the professional associations pointed to the great cooperation between the Sudanese associations, the Women's Association of Qatar, Qatar Charity, the Sudanese Embassy in Qatar, and many others to make this campaign successful.
