Qatar Charity distributes relief assistance to Rohingya refugees in Bangladesh

Qatar Charity (QC) has distributed essential food items and gas cylinders and stoves to Rohingya refugees in Bhasan Char, a remote Bay of Bengal Island in the Noakhali District of Bangladesh.

The distributed food items included rice, pulses, oil, salt, sugar, and dried fishes, which benefited 2,500 Rohingya families, while the cylinders and stoves were distributed to 4,562 refugee families to address the fuel problem.

The relief aid was distributed by the relief team of Qatar Charity’s Bangladesh office, in the presence of local officials, to contribute to alleviating the suffering of Rohingya refugees in Bangladesh.  Qatar Charity attaches significant attention to providing food aid, especially in light of the coronavirus pandemic.

The local officials hailed the Qatar Charity’s efforts in distributing the food items and gas cylinders and stoves to the Rohingya refugee families living in the remote island, hoping for the continuation of such relief efforts in the future, as the refugees are facing a very tough time in light of the coronavirus pandemic.

The refugees have expressed delight with the relief assistance provided by Qatar Charity, which contributed to meeting their essential needs. Fatema Begum, a 30-year-old woman, said that the food items she received from Qatar Charity are sufficient for her family for a whole month. She thanked Qatar Charity for standing by the refugees in their time of adversity.

Solaiman, a 55-year-old refugee said that Qatar Charity is among the humanitarian organizations that distribute food items to the refugees more frequently.

“We are getting food items that help us live in dignity. However, we need mosquito nets, healthcare facilities, and schooling system,” said Shahida, another 35-year-old Rohingya woman,

Qatar Charity has earlier distributed relief aid to 4,000 fire-affected Rohingya refugees in Cox’s Bazar, which displaced nearly 50,000 refugees from their camps. The aid included clothes, safe drinking water and free medical services. In recent months, hundreds of thousands of refugees were taken to Bhasan Char from Teknaf Upazila in Cox’s Bazar.
