Qatar Charity signs an agreement with OCHA to provide water in Yemen

Qatar Charity's office in Yemen signed an agreement with the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs "OCHA" with a value of more than 1.3 million Qatari riyals, to implement a project to provide emergency water and environmental sanitation services for the most vulnerable groups of the displaced and the host community in Abs district, Hajjah governorate in Yemen.

It is expected that more than 9,156 beneficiaries will benefit from the project through the supply, installation, and operation of a solar-powered desalination plant with a capacity of 30 cubic meters, the rehabilitation of a well, the store, and installation of a solar pump, the construction of an armed tower tank, in addition to the provision of a water network for the displaced and the host community, the establishment of a standard water point, the construction of bathrooms and the distribution of bags Cleanliness.

The project will contribute to promoting healthy practices by conducting cleaning campaigns in the targeted areas, disposing of garbage in designated areas, distributing hygiene bags, and raising awareness among the target groups.

This project is one of the qualitative and sustainable projects that Qatar Charity seeks in Yemen, funded by OCHA, to meet the needs of the residents of Abs district, whose residents suffer from poverty, lack of services, and water scarcity.

The signing of the agreement is an extension of previous agreements signed by Qatar Charity with OCHA in Yemen in the last years for the emergency response to the most vulnerable groups of the displaced, the host community, and those affected by the conflict in Yemen.

It is worth noting that Qatar Charity signed three cooperation agreements during the years 2020-2021 with the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs OCHA, with a value of more than 5 million Qatari riyals, or about $1.6 million, to implement projects in the health, water and environmental sanitation sector in three Yemeni governorates: Ibb, Hodeidah, and Hajjah.

 In the health field, Qatar Charity, in partnership with OCHA and in coordination with the Ministry of Health, distributed medicines and medical supplies to eight health centers and units and paid incentives to more than 80 cadres of medical workers in Hajjah and Hodeidah, Yemen, benefiting about 121,000 displaced people and the host community.
