Qatar Charity (QC) has provided treatment to dozens of eye patients and children with cleft lip in Ghana, in conjunction with the launch of its '50,000 Lives’ campaign, which aims to provide treatment to 50,000 patients worldwide, as part of its ‘Ramadan: Leave Your Mark’ campaign.

This came with the generous support of philanthropists in Qatar and with the participation of a delegation of Qatar Charity that included many volunteers and social media influencers.

Dr. Hamad Al-Jaber, a well-known cosmetic surgeon and member of Qatar Charity’s delegation, participated as a volunteer doctor and assistant in performing many cleft lip surgeries in Ghana. He said that he was honored to participate in Qatar Charity's delegation to support its '50,000 Lives’ drive within the framework of its ‘Ramadan: Leave Your Mark’ campaign.

He indicated that, through his participation in the treatment of some cases, he personally felt the great psychological impact on patients after they underwent these surgeries. He added that as a surgeon and a human being, he is proud to be one of the volunteers in this project.

Engineer Hassan Odeh, Director of Qatar Charity’s Ghana Office, revealed that 30 different plastic surgeries out of 60 targeted cases had begun. He indicated that in addition to this project, other projects will be implemented within the same framework.

He explained that the cleft lip treatment project is implemented in coordination with the competent authorities and hospitals in Ghana.

The project consists of several phases, including case search and registration, evaluation and laboratory tests, diagnosis and evaluation of the child's condition, surgery procedure, teeth treatment, and speech rehabilitation.

Qatar Charity's intervention to perform cleft lip surgeries is of great importance, as there are at least 10,000 Ghanaian children suffering from this problem.

The health authorities in Ghana thanked the people in Qatar and Qatar Charity for great efforts in serving the poor and marginalized. Qatar Charity targets 1000 patients with cataract in Ghana.

For his part, Dr. Abdul-Majeed Farhan Al-Hamidi, a member of the delegation, noted the rapid impact of the '50,000 Lives’ campaign. The medical team in Ghana was able to restore sight to many patients after performing cataract surgeries.
