will benefit 4,000 people Qatar Charity launches several health initiatives in Somalia

With the aim of improving health services for citizens in the health field, Qatar Charity launched a medical initiative in Somalia. The inauguration ceremony was attended by His Excellency Dr. Abdullah bin Salem Al Nuaimi, Ambassador of the State of Qatar to Somalia, Mrs. Maryam Mohamed Hussein, Minister of State for the Somali Ministry of Health, and the representative for Banadir Governorate for Social Affairs, Mr. Abdul Aziz Othman Mohammed, Director of Programs and International Development at Qatar Charity, Mr. Abdul Aziz Jassim Haji, and representatives of the Somali Doctors Syndicate.

 

Types of interventions

These initiatives come within the framework of Qatar Charity's keenness to improve health services in Somalia and help the neediest groups, such as children suffering from congenital deformities, chronic disease patients, and people with limited income, in cooperation with the Somali government and official authorities to make these important humanitarian initiatives a success.

The interventions include providing medical services in several areas, including the treatment of eye diseases, from which 2,300 people will benefit, including 930 cases of surgical intervention and cleft lip repair operations, from which 150 children will benefit, and operations for 30 children who suffer from congenital heart defects, in addition to treating 200 cases. Of chronic disease patients and the treatment of 1,200 children who suffer from acute malnutrition

The Minister of State for the Ministry of Health, Mrs. Maryam Mohamed Hussein, expressed her appreciation to Qatar Charity for its continued support of the health sector in Somalia and said, “Qatar Charity is an important partner for Somalia in the field of health, and has presented many projects and programs that have contributed to improving the health of the Somali people. The new initiatives that have been launched will contribute "This will significantly contribute to enhancing health care in Somalia and improving the lives of citizens."

On the other hand, Mr. Abdulaziz Jassim Haji, Director of the International Programs Department in Qatar, express his appreciation, and gratitude to the parties participating in this initiative, saying: “I extend my sincere thanks for the distinguished cooperation and permanent coordination with the Somali government. We are proud of the history of The cooperation with the Federal Republic goes back to 2007, where we work together.

Abdul Aziz Othman Mohammed, Deputy Officer of Bandar and Social Officer, thanked and appreciated Qatar’s contributions and the State of Qatar for these humanitarian initiatives that will contribute to improving health services in Somalia.

The Deputy Governor comes to these projects now when there is a severe shortage of health services, where there is still a humanitarian crisis such as childbirth and natural conflicts.

The initiative to treat eye diseases was launched recently, and it is expected that the rest of the initiatives will be implemented in the period from October until the end of December of this year.
