Qatar Charity signed an agreement with the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) in Yemen to implement a water and sanitation services project and to improve access to health services in the governorates of Taiz and Ibb, at a total cost exceeding five million Qatari riyals.

The signing of this agreement comes as an extension of previous agreements signed by Qatar Charity with OCHA in Yemen over the past years, to provide emergency response to the most vulnerable groups of displaced persons, host communities, and those affected by the crisis in Yemen.

Water and sanitation

Within the framework of the signed agreement, the water project aims to establish two water collection tanks in the villages of Al-Barasha and Al-Juwaih in Taiz, in addition to monitoring water quality in eight wells in Ibb Governorate and nine wells in Taiz Governorate and building 35 toilets. It is expected that this project will contribute to promoting sound health practices by disseminating... Health and environmental awareness among target groups to alleviate the suffering of the displaced in Ibb and Taiz governorates and provide them with water and sanitation services in these areas. The number of beneficiaries is expected to reach 118,721 people.

Health Care

The same agreement that was signed provides health services, through which nine health facilities in Taiz and Ibb will also be supported, covering the costs of operating these facilities, the salaries of their workers, purchasing medicines, medical supplies, and the laboratory, and covering transportation costs for emergency situations.

This project will ensure access to primary healthcare services for approximately 61,625 displaced people.

Extended cooperation

It is worth noting that Qatar Charity had previously signed three cooperation agreements during the years 2020 and 2021 with OCHA, worth more than 5 million Qatari riyals, to implement projects in the health, water, and environmental sanitation sectors in three Yemeni governorates, Ibb, Al Hudaydah, and Hajjah.

Qatar Charity, in partnership with OCHA and in coordination with the Yemeni Ministry of Health, distributed medicines and medical supplies to eight health centers and units and paid incentives to more than 80 cadres of medical workers in both the cities of Hajjah and Hodeidah, benefiting approximately 121,000 displaced Yemenis and the host community.
