Qatar Charity provides shelter and water to displaced people in northern Sudan

Qatar Charity continues its humanitarian efforts to relieve those affected by the war in Sudan, as it launched the implementation of a project to improve temporary shelter, provide potable water, and implement cleanliness and sanitation campaigns in the city of Wadi Halfa and those stranded at the Arqin crossing, located on the Sudanese-Egyptian border.

The Qatar Charity project included providing tents and other shelter supplies and potable water for two months by providing a truck to distribute drinking water to 2,500 people per month, providing chlorine tablets and water storage equipment for families, waste collection equipment as part of an environmental sanitation campaign, and constructing temporary toilets and hand washing units with soap in Places of gatherings with the aim of contributing to the efforts made to alleviate the impact and suffering of the displaced and stranded as a result of the war and to reduce the incidence of diseases resulting from the lack of availability of water or their use of contaminated water.

These projects were greatly welcomed locally, as the Commissioner of the Humanitarian Aid Commission in the Northern Sudanese State, Dr. Abdel-Rahman Ali Khairi, praised them and said: “Qatar Charity provided drinking water for the displaced in shelter centers, implemented cleanliness and environmental sanitation campaigns in the city of Wadi Halfa, and provided (50) tents.” For special cases, it is equipped with all the necessary mattresses, fans, electricity, and water containers, urging Qatar Charity to search for sustainable solutions to the water and sanitation problems affecting the city of Wadi Halfa.”

Khairy confirmed that Qatar Charity was one of the first organizations to intervene by providing ready-made meals at the Ashkit and Arqin crossings and various shelter centers.

Several displaced and stranded travelers in the city of Halfa and the Arqin crossing expressed their appreciation for Qatar Charity’s intervention to provide shelter and clean drinking water and implement hygiene campaigns following the wave of displacement that led to a negative change in the environment in the host areas in the northern state and the suffering of the sick and elderly in obtaining water and appropriate shelter.

In appreciation of the efforts made by Qatar Charity in the city of Halfa, the supervisor of the shelter center at Othman Muhammad Suleiman School thanked Qatar Charity for providing clean drinking water.

For her part, Wijdan thanked the Qatari and Qatar Charity for providing a tent equipped for her and her family in the shelter center.

It is worth noting that Qatar Charity has implemented a series of humanitarian interventions for those displaced by the war in the affected states and is currently working on implementing new health and food projects during the coming period.
