161 students sponsored by Qatar Charity graduate from Mogadishu University

Qatar Charity (QC) organized a graduation ceremony for 161 of its sponsored students at Mogadishu University in Somalia and welcomed 212 new Somali students into its sponsorship program.

The ceremony was attended by the members of the Somali Cabinet and the House of the People, the Qatari Embassy staff, the Head of the Child Protection section at the Family and Childhood Care Department at Qatar Charity, and the President of Mogadishu University.

The ceremony was also attended by several graduates who had received scholarships from Qatar Charity and now hold important positions in the Somali government.

Speakers at the ceremony praised Qatar Charity's educational efforts in Somalia, which have benefited more than 3,000 Somali students since the opening of Qatar Charity's office in the country.

In his speech during the ceremony, the Sate Minister of Interior, Federal Affairs and Reconciliation, HE Sadaad Mohamed Nur Alio, said, "The university has made education rise from the rubble, despite the destruction and devastation in Somalia. It has proven to the world that the right to education is for all, even if they are besieged by wars."Top of Form

Alio pointed out that he was among the first individuals sponsored by Qatar Charity to study at Mogadishu University, and many of the sponsored students have held high positions in the country.

On his part, Dr Ibrahim Mursal, the President of Mogadishu University, praised the efforts of Qatar Charity in supporting education in Somalia. He said, "Qatar Charity has been the primary partner and supporter of the university since its inception, sponsoring thousands of students and giving them a new life."

Mursal added that education is the path to development and progress, noting that students sponsored by Qatar Charity were among the first students to achieve advanced academic degrees in Somalia. He urged the graduating students to continue their educational journey and work towards serving their country and community.

The Undersecretary of the Ministry of Education and Higher Education in Somalia Mr. Ismail Yusuf Osman praised the efforts of Qatar Charity in the field of education in Somalia, which have resulted in the graduation of numerous leaders whom the country takes pride in. He expressed his gratitude to the government, the people, and the Amir of Qatar for their continuous support. He also thanked Qatar Charity for its ongoing efforts in supporting education in Somalia, which have contributed to improving the quality of education and increasing learning opportunities for students.

Mr. Yousef al-Khulaifi, Head of the Child Protection section and General Supervisor of the “Rofaqa” initiative, expressed his joy at the graduation of the students and their academic excellence. He stated that the graduation of over 160 students from various disciplines reflects Qatar Charity's commitment to supporting education in Somalia, as well as its belief that education is the sole path to development and progress.

He emphasized Qatar Charity's commitment to providing quality education for underprivileged students in Somalia by sponsoring students through the “Rofaqa” initiative. He stated, 'We consider supporting Somali students a moral and humanitarian duty, through which we aim to build a better future for them.'"

The graduates thanked Qatar Charity and Mogadishu University for their support during their academic journey.  Mohammed Shukri Hussein said, “I am happy today for my graduation. The scholarship helped me continue my education and achieve my dream.”  Zainab Hussein stated, “I thank Qatar Charity and Mogadishu University for their support during my study period. I am happy today because I managed to complete my education despite the difficult circumstances I faced.”
