A delegation from Qatar Charity, including officials, philanthropists, influencers, and volunteers, visited several projects in Bangladesh, such as orphan care centers, medical initiatives, and the Rohingya refugee camp in Cox's Bazar.

Rohingya Refugee Camp

The delegation visited the Rohingya camp at the Bhasan Char Island, where they also participated in the distribution of gas cylinders to the refugees. They then visited a school within the refugee camp, where the gifts were distributed to the Rohingya children.

The delegation also paid a visit to Qatar Charity's agriculture project for refugees and WFP's Food Assistance Outlet in the Rohingya camp. The delegation held a meeting with government officials in charge of the camp. The representatives of WFP and UNHCR were present at the meeting.

During the meeting, the government high official of the camp, Md. Mahfuzur Rahman praised Qatar Charity's various initiatives and said that Qatar Charity and the donors of Qatar have continued to provide various supports, including food items and LPG cylinders, to the helpless Rohingyas.

In response to this, Mr. Abdulaziz Jassim Hejji, Director of the Programs and International Development Department at Qatar Charity, said, “We are happy to see various projects on the ground,” emphasizing that Qatar Charity will continue its humanitarian work for the Rohingya refugees to contribute to alleviating their suffering.

During his visit to an orphan care center in Dhamrai-Dhaka, Mohammed Ahmed Al Kubaisi, a Qatari philanthropist, said, “I feel blessed to come here.” He thanked everyone involved in this beautiful event, noting that it is a great honor that many Quran memorizers (Hafiz) come out of this Orphan Care Center.

Health Camp

The delegation visited a 10-day health camp organized by Qatar Charity to treat children with congenital heart disease at a hospital in the capital, Dhaka. They interacted with the doctors of the hospital and met the children admitted for operation and their families.

Professor Dr. Nur-Un-Nahar Fatema, the pediatric cardiologist and the local coordinator of the health camp, told the delegation, “We are treating the children whose families are so needy and they have no capabilities to afford the treatment.” She said, “It would be impossible to treat the children without the support of Qatar Charity and the donors of Qatar.”

Social Housing

The delegation participated in the inauguration ceremony of two newly constructed 6-storey buildings of Qatar Charity for homeless families in Datiapara village of Sunamganj district.

It is worth noting that Qatar Charity, with the support of philanthropists in Qatar, implemented nearly 1,400 development, humanitarian, and social welfare projects in Bangladesh in 2023, to benefit 342,603 people.

As a humanitarian response, Qatar Charity implemented 6 projects to provide food and non-food relief aid for the Rohingya refugees in the camps of Cox’s Bazar and Bhasanchar, benefitting more than 150,000 refugees.
