Qatar Charity (QC), with funding from UNICEF, continues to implement the water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) project for Afghan refugees in 6 districts of Pakistan’s Balochistan province. The project is expected to benefit 425,000 individuals, including 276,250 Afghan refugees.

This project targets Afghan refugees and the host community in Balochistan, where the Refugee Response Plan (RRP) Project is implemented to Provide Drinking Water Supplies by establishing new water supply lines in the Chagi district, benefiting approximately 45,000 people.

Qatar Charity distributed hygiene kits to 14,000 individuals through this project. Additionally, more than 5,000 latrines were constructed, and over 5,000 awareness sessions were conducted to promote social behavior change, until December 2023.

As part of the same project, 49 government girl schools and 21 healthcare facilities were selected for the provision of toilets and hand washing points. This initiative has been widely welcomed, both by Afghan refugees and the host community.

Mr. Balach Aziz, the Commissioner of the Loralai Division, expressed his admiration for Qatar Charity’s impactful work at the Basic Health Unit in the Loralai district, indicating that these projects help reduce the spread of diseases and promote a culture of cleanliness.

Ms. Fozia Durrani, District Education Officer at the Loralai District, said, “I wholeheartedly appreciate the recent implementation of the WASH projects at schools by Qatar Charity. This has increased enrollment in the schools. Qatar Charity also considered the needs of persons with disabilities in the latrine designs. This inclusive approach is truly commendable and reflects Qatar Charity’s dedication to creating a more accessible and equitable environment for all.”

For their parts, Afghan refugees and the host community have expressed their happiness with this initiative.
