Qatar Charity (QC) organized a third free medical and surgical camp in Bangladesh to repair congenital heart defects in children. The 10-day medical camp treated 113 children whose families were completely incapable of affording the expenses of the treatment and the procedure.

The medical team included two pediatric cardiologists and consultants in interventional catheter procedures from the University of Texas, US, a pediatric cardiologist from the University of Jordan, a senior medical technologist, and an anesthesiologist, in addition to many local medical staff.

The doctors conducted surgeries for the children suffering from congenital heart diseases.

The medical team also conducted multiple examinations to assess the conditions and prepare them for the surgical procedures.

The doctors emphasized the importance of performing these surgeries. “The need for intervention here is very high as the devices and catheters are very expensive. There are a lot of people who can’t afford that. So, we treated the children with the highest care with the support of Qatar Charity,” said Professor Dr. Muhammad Numan, an expert in pediatric cardiology and consultant in interventional catheter procedures at the University of Texas.

"I believe that about 20 percent of the patients are in a truly critical condition, and we provided them with exceptionally specialized care," stated Dr. Iyad AL-Ammouri, a pediatric cardiologist from the University of Jordan.

Dr. Nur-Un-Nahar Fatema, Chairman of `Congenital Heart Desk Foundation’ and the local coordinator of Qatar Charity’s health camp, said, “We treated the children whose families are so needy and unable to afford the treatment. The children we treated will have the opportunity for a new life.”

Gratitude

The families thanked Qatar Charity and the philanthropists of Qatar for providing free treatment for their children.

“It was very difficult for me to bear the expenses of my child’s treatment,” said the mother of a 2-year-old child, Jannatul Mawa, who received the treatment at the camp, adding that “we got an opportunity to treat my child with the help of Qatar Charity.”

“My son has been suffering from heart disease since birth, and we tried a lot to provide him with better treatment, but all efforts were in vain due to the financial scarcity,” said the father of Fahad Hossain Tahmid.  He thanked the benefactors of Qatar and Qatar Charity for providing the appropriate treatment for his children.

Previous Medical Camps

It is worth mentioning that Qatar Charity previously organized two medical camps in Bangladesh. The first camp took place in May 2022, benefiting 31 children grappling with congenital heart problems. The second camp was held in August 2022, benefiting 130 children.
