A joint delegation from Qatar Charity (QC) and Qatar University (QU) recently visited the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, as part of the ongoing second edition of the “Preparing Youth Leadership in the Field of Humanitarian and Development Work” program. The visit came to observe humanitarian and development projects implemented by Qatar Charity in the country.

Led by Mr. Abdulrahman Mohammad al-Hajri, director of the Programs and Community Development Department at Qatar Charity, and Mr. Abdullah Al-Mulla, Director of QU’s Student Activities Department, the delegation included several QU students. 

The visit aims to provide the participants with firsthand experience in the field of humanitarian and development work. They had the opportunity to engage directly in humanitarian activities, observe key relief and development programs, and understand the interventions for refugees and the most vulnerable groups in Jordanian society, in addition to deepening their understanding of field operations through a workshop at Qatar Charity’s Jordan office.

The delegation, which also included 20 students, both male and female, paid visits to Qatar Charity’s various projects, as well as to the King Hussein Cancer Center, the Al-Aman Fund for the Future of Orphans, and the Azraq Refugee Camp, where they observed the services provided to refugees. Additionally, they visited the Qatar Charity Health Center in the Zaatari Refugee Camp, where delegation members actively participated in distributing aid to the refugees.

During the visit, His Excellency Sheikh Saud bin Nasser bin Jassim Al Thani, Ambassador of the State of Qatar to the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, welcomed the delegation, in the presence of Dr. Hussein Al-Shibli, JHCO Secretary General, and Mr. Saleh Al-Marri, General Supervisor of Qatar Charity’s office in Jordan.

The program “Preparing Youth Leadership in the Field of Humanitarian and Development Work”, now in its second edition launched in partnership with Qatar University at the start of last month, aims to build the capacities of young people and enhance their skills in understanding humanitarian work. The program seeks to increase their sense of responsibility towards their nation and the world. Additionally, it focuses on promoting the concept of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the role of charitable work in achieving them.

Prior to the visit to Jordan, the program included a series of training workshops covering topics such as the values of volunteer work, Qatar Charity’s theory of change, social responsibility and charitable work, risk and humanitarian crisis management, international humanitarian law, the international humanitarian system, human resources in charity work, and many other topics.

Participants in the program are tasked with designing humanitarian projects that will be approved by Qatar Charity and prepared for implementation. A closing ceremony is anticipated soon, during which the three winning projects will be announced
