Qatar Charity inaugurates school, distributes supplies in Somalia

Qatar Charity (QC), with the generous support of philanthropists in Qatar, inaugurated the ‘Aisha bint Jassim Al-Muftah’ school in the Bay Region of Somalia’s South-West State. It also provided 1,800 students—including many orphans and children from underprivileged families—with school bags and supplies at the beginning of the 2024-2025 academic year. This is part of Qatar Charity’s ongoing efforts to bolster education and community development.

This project is part of Qatar Charity’s efforts in Somalia to expand educational opportunities, create a conducive learning environment, and pave the way for a brighter future for Somali children. The newly inaugurated school can accommodate 200 male and female students. The school’s opening coincides with Qatar Charity’s recently launched campaign “Prioritizing their Education”.  The campaign aims to provide school supplies to children from low-income families in several countries, ensuring they start the academic year with joy and the supplies they need.

The school’s inauguration ceremony was attended by several Somali officials, including Mr. Abdifatah Sheikh Issack, Deputy Minister of Education of South-West State of Somalia, Mr. Bare Aden. Deputy of Minister of Endowments and Religious Affairs of South-West State of Somalia, Mr. Adam Hassan, Deputy Governor of the Bay Region, and Mr. Abdifatah Adam Mo’allim, Director of Qatar Charity’s Office in Somalia.

In his speech at the ceremony, Mr. Abdifatah Sheikh Issack, Deputy Minister of Education of South-West State of Somalia, commended Qatar Charity's crucial efforts in strengthening education in Somalia. He highlighted that Qatar Charity's role goes beyond merely constructing schools; it also focuses on enhancing the quality of education and providing essential support to the most vulnerable groups, including orphans and children from low-income families. He remarked, "Qatar Charity sets a commendable example in supporting education through its pioneering efforts in constructing and developing schools and providing essential support to students."Top of FormBottom of Form

For his part, Mr. Adam Hassan, the Deputy Governor of the Bay Region, praised the contributions of donors and Qatar Charity across various humanitarian sectors. He emphasized that Qatar Charity plays a vital role in the region, not only in education but also in health, water, and economic empowerment. He added, "Qatar Charity significantly improves the lives of Bay Region residents through its diverse projects, and we are grateful for this collaboration that enhances the quality of life for our citizens.

Mr. Abdulfatah Adam, Director of Qatar Charity’s office in Somalia, emphasized that the opening of the "Aisha bint Jassim Al-Muftah" school is a crucial element of its strategy to support education as a cornerstone of sustainable development. He stated, "We believe that investing in education is the key to a better future. Our goal is to improve educational conditions and provide equal opportunities for children in Somalia.

During the ceremony, school bags and supplies were distributed to the students, a gesture that was warmly welcomed by the benefiting families, who thanked the generous people of Qatar for their tremendous support.
