Qatar Charity (QC), in partnership with the World Food Programme (WFP), is providing monthly food and cash assistance to nearly 5,000 displaced families in Somalia’s Galmudug State for a period of eight months. This initiative is part of Qatar Charity’s ongoing efforts to alleviate the suffering of those impacted by crises and disasters.

The project, which began in May and will continue until the end of December this year, aims to provide effective support in addressing food insecurity and malnutrition in the regions affected by natural disasters and humanitarian crises.

More than 2,000 affected families benefit from the monthly distribution of essential food supplies, sufficient for each household for a full month. Meanwhile, 2,500 families receive monthly cash assistance to support their needs.

In this context, Mr. Abdulfatah Adam, Director of Qatar Charity's office in Somalia, expressed his pride in the partnership with WFP, which is the first of its kind in this vital project. He stated, "Our goal is to support families forced to flee their villages due to disasters and crises and to improve their living conditions during this challenging period. We believe that the food and cash assistance will help alleviate their suffering and meet their basic needs. We remain committed to continuing our efforts to ensure that aid reaches those in need effectively, in cooperation with our partners."

He also expressed the aspirations of Qatar Charity's office to strengthen collaboration with WFP and other international organizations in the future to implement further humanitarian projects and reach more affected families.

The assistance has left a positive impact on the affected families. Mohamed Jama, 39, stated, "The aid we received has been crucial amid rising food prices. It has eased the financial burden on our families." Meanwhile, Amina Mohamed, 51, emphasized, "Families were struggling with food shortages, and this assistance came at the right time."

It is worth noting that Qatar Charity has implemented other relief projects for internally displaced persons (IDPs) in Somalia in collaboration with international organizations. Last year, Qatar Charity distributed cash assistance to 800 families displaced by drought in Baidoa. The assistance was funded by the Start Network, a global consortium of humanitarian agencies, dedicated to providing rapid and effective aid in humanitarian crises.
