Doha, Qatar – November 19, 2024

With the onset of each winter, Yemen faces cold waves that affect many areas, as is the case these days. Temperatures drop significantly, especially in the mountainous and northern regions, adding to the suffering of people already impacted by the ongoing conflict for over 8 years, as well as those affected by floods, particularly internally displaced persons (IDPs), vulnerable families, and the families of orphans.

The lack of safe shelter is one of the most pressing challenges. Many Yemenis have lost their homes due to the ongoing crisis. Even those who have not lost their homes are struggling to find protection from the severe cold, as they lack adequate heating sources such as heaters, fuel, and winter clothing, especially amid the economic crisis and the loss of family income. This exposes them to significant health risks. Additionally, securing enough food during the winter becomes a major challenge, further increasing the risk of malnutrition-related diseases, especially among children and pregnant women.

Qatar Charity, with the support of generous donors in Qatar, extends a helping hand to these vulnerable groups through its seasonal winter relief campaigns, providing humanitarian aid to alleviate their suffering. It places special focus on the most vulnerable and conflict-affected districts, as well as the families of orphans, by providing food, winter, and shelter assistance. This support has a positive impact on the lives of the beneficiaries.

Projects implemented over the past two years include the distribution of shelter kits and winter clothing in several governorates. More than 11,300 people (1,616 families) benefited from this initiative.

The shelter kits, sufficient for a family of seven, included blankets, mattresses, mats, stoves, solar lamps, and kitchen utensils. The winter kits included blankets, mats, winter clothing, and other essential items.

Thanks to the generous donations of the people of Qatar, Qatar Charity's winter campaigns have helped families overcome challenges and restore a sense of stability. The mother of orphan Nayef Al-Qulaysi, 10, thanked donors for providing winter clothes to protect her children from the cold. Aziz Saleh Nasher, grandfather of two orphans, shared his grandchildren's joy at receiving the clothes that brought them warmth and happiness. He expressed his gratitude to those who help orphans and the needy.
