With the support of the generous people of Qatar, Qatar Charity’s office in Somalia was able to implement around 300 humanitarian and development projects in 2024, with a total value exceeding 40 million Qatari riyals, benefiting more than 600,000 people across various regions. The office also signed several cooperation and partnership agreements with UN and international organizations and relevant government bodies, which contributed to coordinating efforts and enhancing the impact of its projects and aid.

The implemented projects covered sectors such as water and sanitation, food security, health, education, social welfare, economic empowerment, and social housing. These efforts were part of Qatar Charity's comprehensive response to address the humanitarian challenges caused by the ongoing crises in Somalia, including providing humanitarian aid and rehabilitating infrastructure amid the successive disasters of drought, floods, and conflicts.

In 2024, Somalia witnessed several humanitarian crises that severely affected the lives of millions of citizens, including severe droughts that destroyed crops and caused livestock losses. Additionally, floods impacted several regions due to the El Niño phenomenon, leading to destruction of properties and infrastructure. Meanwhile, ongoing conflict continued to threaten the country’s stability.

Water and Sanitation
The persistent drought led to a severe shortage of clean water, making this sector one of Qatar Charity's priorities in 2024. A total of 78 projects were implemented, costing 10.3 million Qatari riyals, benefiting over 140,000 people. These projects included drilling and equipping deep and shallow wells, as well as implementing sanitation projects for affected communities, which helped improve the quality of life and reduce waterborne diseases.

Food Security
In response to the escalating food crisis in Somalia, Qatar Charity carried out 84 projects with a total cost of approximately 8.6 million Qatari riyals. These projects included distributing food baskets to families affected by drought and conflict, providing comprehensive relief to displaced families, and supporting livestock farming, agriculture, and fishing boat projects. These initiatives helped provide sustainable livelihoods, especially in rural areas severely impacted by natural disasters, benefiting more than 300,000 people.

Health and Nutrition
Qatar Charity was committed to providing integrated healthcare support to those affected by disasters and crises. It implemented 16 projects costing 3.5 million Qatari riyals, benefiting over 58,000 people. The projects included the construction and equipping of health centers, as well as the implementation of comprehensive health programs, including blindness prevention, treatment of non-communicable diseases, and the treatment of severe malnutrition in children.

Education
Qatar Charity is one of the leading organizations supporting the education sector in Somalia. In 2024, it implemented 36 projects, costing over 5 million Qatari riyals, benefiting 3,906 people. These projects included building schools, equipping classrooms, providing educational supplies, and constructing Quran memorization centers and mosques in several regions.

Economic Empowerment
Qatar Charity implemented 73 projects in economic empowerment, with a total cost of around 2.5 million Qatari riyals, benefiting 1,944 people. These projects supported small and medium enterprises in trade, transportation, and crafts, and provided training opportunities for youth in various skills and trades, helping provide stable income for the beneficiaries.

Social Housing
Three social housing projects were carried out to provide safe shelter for families affected by conflict and disasters, with a total cost of 231,801 Qatari riyals, benefiting 18 people.

Social Welfare (Sponsorships)
Qatar Charity sponsors 22,786 orphans, needy families, students, people with disabilities, and teachers. The sponsored individuals received monthly financial support, and both the sponsored and their families benefited from 12,370 food baskets and the Eid clothing project, which assisted 74,220 people. The total cost of sponsorships and related projects amounted to 10.3 million Qatari riyals, benefiting more than 97,000 people.

Agreements and Partnerships
In 2024, Qatar Charity's office signed an agreement with UNICEF in the fields of nutrition and livelihoods, and another agreement with the World Food Program to enhance food security for those affected by crises. It also signed agreements with the Somali Disaster Management Agency (SODMA) and health-related agreements with the Banadir Region, the Banadir Government Hospital, and the Ministry of Health in the Galmudug State.
