With the continued support of the generous people of Qatar, and as part of its ongoing Ramadan initiatives, Qatar Charity is distributing food baskets to the most vulnerable families and those of sponsored orphans across several countries worldwide. This distribution is part of the Iftar for the Fasting project, within Qatar Charity’s " Giving Lives On " campaign, launched at the start of the current Ramadan season (1446 AH - 2025 AD), aimed at promoting solidarity and compassion. A total of around 7,100 families in Somalia and Chad have benefited from these food baskets.
Somalia
The Ramadan food basket distribution campaign in Somalia was officially launched by His Excellency Dr. Abdullah bin Salem Al-Nuaimi, the Ambassador of the State of Qatar, alongside Her Excellency Mrs. Khadija Al-Makhzumi, the Somali Minister of Family and Human Rights. The campaign targeted over 6,200 families facing severe living conditions.
His Excellency Dr. Abdullah bin Salem Al-Nuaimi commended Qatar Charity’s leadership in providing essential aid to the Somali people across various states, praising its efforts in improving living standards and fostering community development.
Minister Khadija Al-Makhzumi also praised the initiative, emphasizing that it comes at a critical time when many Somali families are in dire need of food assistance during the holy month of Ramadan. She stated, "This initiative embodies the values of brotherhood, solidarity, and mutual cooperation, reinforcing the bond between nations. We express our deep gratitude to Qatar Charity and the State of Qatar for their continuous support of struggling families in Somalia."
A Moment of Joy
The beneficiaries of the aid expressed profound gratitude for the initiative. Ayan Mahmoud Ahmed, a mother of five, shared: "We didn’t have enough food to prepare for Ramadan, but this food basket will help us meet our daily Iftar needs. We are deeply thankful to everyone who contributed to this humanitarian effort."
Similarly, Fatima Ahmed Mohamed expressed her heartfelt thanks, saying: "Thank you to the State of Qatar and Qatar Charity for this generous support. These donations bring us great joy, especially during the holy month of Ramadan. We pray to Allah to bless them abundantly."
Chad
In Chad, the distribution of Ramadan food baskets was carried out with the involvement of 15 volunteers who were former orphans sponsored by Qatar Charity, having outgrown their sponsorship. They shared that their participation stemmed from a deep love for doing good and serving their community. Their happiness was evident as they saw the joy on the faces of the recipients.
The food baskets, containing a variety of basic food items, are designed to meet the needs of families throughout the month of Ramadan, enabling them to provide Iftar meals. A total of 875 food baskets were distributed, benefiting over 6,118 people. This initiative addresses the needs of underprivileged families, reflecting the spirit of inherited generosity that the people of Qatar are known for during this blessed month, and providing joy to the orphans' families by extending support to them.
Mothers of orphans expressed their appreciation for the initiative, noting how it alleviates the financial burdens they face and strengthens the concept of social solidarity among people of the same nation. All recipients offered prayers for those who contributed their time and resources, thanking the people of Qatar for their ongoing humanitarian efforts and asking God to grant them abundant rewards for their kindness.
