QC began projects in Sudan in the early 1990s in partnership with local organisa-tions. In 1994, QC registered and opened its of ce in Khartoum, to contribute to sustainable development, provide support to the poor and relief to the distressed. The of ce is one of the organisation’s oldest and most prominent of ces and Sudan is second only to Palestine in terms of funding.

About Sudan

Sudan is considered the largest African country. It occupies a total area of 1,882,000 sq. km, with a population of 33.4 million (2009). The demographic growth rate is estimated at 2.8% annually. Sudan is a large country with enormous capabilities, but suffers from many natural crises and political problems, which have led to several development challenges. Sudan ranks 166th out of 188, according to the Human Development Index (2014).
