QC Implements ‘Providing Drink

Through its office in the Strip and in cooperation with Ghaith for Relief and Development, QC has recently started implementing ‘Providing Drinking Water’ project to the poor. More than 3,000 poor families are expected to benefit from it. It will take around 8 months for the project to be implemented at a cost of 262,000 QR.

Kidney Diseases

The Municipalities in the Strip provide the citizens with salty water only, which could cause many different diseases such as kidney diseases. Therefore, QC decided to implement this project in order to provide the poor families with good drinking water.

Eng. Mohammed Abu Halloub, QC’s Office Director in the Strip, said that this project is being implemented because QC wants to alleviate the sufferings of those who cannot afford to get good drinking water, and to prevent the diseases spread because of water pollution. He also emphasized the fact that water projects are on the top QC’s priorities’ list since the siege and the attacks on the Strip have destroyed all of the water networks, which were not even sufficient.

QC, as he also mentioned, will not spare an effort until it has helped the needy families and offered a good living opportunities for the needy; whether through relief or development projects.

Water Crisis

The Strip’s aquifer is both polluted and empty which made the Strip suffer from a dire water crisis. As a result, the Gazan families who are financially stable buy filtered water, while the poor families still use the brackish water provided by the municipalities.

To help face this crisis, QC is implementing a project to filter rainwater and to inject it into the aquifer in around 30 public schools.

The UN had already warned from the worsening situation of water in the Strip. According to the UN’s report, if the current conditions remain the same, the situation in 2016 will be catastrophic. The Strip is in great need for desalination plants a hundred times more than roads.

Reconstruction of Gaza

After all the destruction and wreckage the last aggression on the Strip caused, QC spared no effort to help rebuild the Strip.

More than 2,000 people were martyred during the aggression, 11,200 were injured, and thousands of families, whose houses were demolished, were displaced. Furthermore, many infrastructure facilities such as roads, hospitals, schools, and factories were destroyed.

The last brutal attack on the Gaza Strip caused the loss of so many people, houses, and facilities. 2,139 were martyred: 579 of them were children, 264 of them were women, and 102 were elders. 11,200 people were injured: 25% of them became handicapped. 1,000 children became permanently disabled. 2,088 women, 3,374 children and 410 old people were injured. 1,200 families lost their breadwinners. 90 families were entirely eliminated and 49 massacres were executed.

In addition, 466,000 citizens were displaced, 2,360 houses were completely destroyed, 13,644 houses were partly destroyed, 30,000 workers lost their jobs, and 134 factories were completely demolished. The destruction of Gaza cost a financial loss of 3,500,000,000 USD.

QC Provides a Big Indonesian C

2,500,000 benefited from a huge water project; only 12% had access to drinking water before that.

Garut City in Indonesia suffered from dire shortage of drinking water; its people used to get only 12% of clean water. Now, however, thanks to QC things changed to the better.

QC and Mr. Rudy Gunawan, City Chief, signed an agreement in September 2014. As stated in the agreement, QC would provide 2,500,000 people living in Garut with clean water through digging 350 wells in one year. The project was implemented at a cost of 1,750,000 QR.

Goodbye Water Ponds

Mr. Gunawan said, “The water QC provided the city with entirely replaced the water ponds the people used to use for their wudu’ (ablution), their personal cleanliness and at schools. To be honest, when I signed this agreement last year, I did not expect the project to be this huge! I even told my colleagues that it would be great if they only dug 50 wells. We had met many institutions and I cannot begin to tell you the promises we’ve heard; however, QC did not make any promises. No, QC implemented. QC got the job done. I sincerely thank QC and the philanthropists who spent their money on this project so that our city would get clean water. It is a prevention project that will help protect us from diseases and will help the future of this city.”

The Fruit of Doing Good

Garut city has an area of 300 km2 and a population of 2,500,000 people. It basically depends on agriculture and is considered to be the neediest city for water in Indonesia.

The agreement, signed last year (2014) between QC and the Indonesian government, stated that by the end of September 2015 QC will have dug 350 wells.

The implementation of the project started immediately after the agreement was signed. QC, first, identified the neediest regions and villages for these wells; then started the implementation. Many schools, health centers and mosques benefited from this project.

The inauguration of this project was attended by many officials and senior figures. Each dug well had 5 water taps, and two toilets sometimes.

Mr. Karam Zeinhom, QC’s Office Director in Indonesia, said that such water projects were the fruit of QC’s good doing in Indonesia. “In fact, the services related to people’s lives and health conditions are always a priority,” said he.

QC, as Mr. Zeinhom clarified, does not spare an effort to help the needy in Indonesia; it is part of QC’s humanitarian message to the world. He also added that QC will not stop until it helps its brothers and sisters in Indonesia.

Thousands of Projects

It is worth mentioning that QC’s office has been working in Indonesia for 10 years. The total of the money spent in the past years reached 30,000,000$ (100,000,000 QR). QC had also signed an agreement with the Ministry of Religions and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs a while ago to renew the work in the humanitarian field for 3 years at a budget of 10,000,000$.

QC recently opened a big educational center after it had built and equipped it at a cost of 2,196,000QR. It was inaugurated in the presence of some officials, senior figures, a representative of the Qatari ambassador in Indonesia, a delegation from QC and the donors. Mr. Rashidbin Fatis Al Mari, Deputy of QC’s CEO of Global Development, His Excellency Mr. Mohammed Al Badir, Representative of the Qatari Ambassador in Indonesia, and Mohammed Abdul Jaleel Abdul Ghani, Representative of Al Abdul Jaleel family, the donating philanthropists.

QC continues to implement income-generating projects for the benefit of the poor regions in Indonesia. These projects included handing the ownership of sewing machines, distributing dairy cows, and motorcycles to carry goods.

These projects are part of QC’s efforts in developing the targeted communities in Indonesia. It is a kind of support to the universal efforts to achieve the developmental goals for this millennium. In addition, QC seeks to contribute to the achievement of self-sufficiency projects that can get the poor families fixed-income to guarantee their dignity.

QC Implements Relief Projects

QC’s office in Jakarta intervened to help the Rohingya families who were washed up on the beach of Indonesia while trying to escape from their countries.
QC offered the Rohingya refugees food, clothes, water and school bags for children. It also dug for them 3 wells and offered their children some school bags.

QC helped save the Rohingya refugees who fled their countries because of the oppression they suffered from there. 1,090 refugees benefited from QC’s project.

Hundreds of the Muslim Rohingya families were washed to the coast of Aceh in Indonesia. They were disoriented for having spent few days in the sea without food, mattresses or covers.

Providing Water

The second QC saw what was happening to the families in Indonesia, it distributed to them dry and cooked foodstuffs, clothes, cleaning tools (such as soap, shampoo, toothpaste and toothbrush), and school bags for around 200 children.

QC dug 3 wells to provide the refugees with drinking water through cisterns but with limited quantities.

Children’s Sufferings

1,090 Rohingya refugees in Indonesia benefited from QC’s relief project. The aids covered the refugees living in the shelters of the Northern Aceh, Eastern Aceh, Nijsa, and Aceh Tamiang. The refugees were provided with rice, sugar, oil, vermicelli, tea, dates and other basic foodstuffs. The project was implemented at a cost of 200,000QR

Through this project, QC hopes to alleviate the refugees’ sufferings and help the children feel safe once again. They all have been through a difficult time and difficult circumstances.

QC’s Message

Mr. Karam Zeinhom, QC’s Office Director in Indonesia, said that QC has always proven itself committed to helping refugees and needy people. “Aiding those people is a priority to us. We will do our best to make sure they are saved and in good conditions. We cooperate with different governments, organizations and countries to help all the people who are conflict-affected or are suffering from natural disasters. This is our message at QC: to help the needy. Assisting the refugees in Indonesia is only a part of what we aim at. We’ll never stop offering our hand and support,” said he.

Continuous Giving

QC’s office in Indonesia was opened more than ten years ago after Tsunami hit the region in 2004. It implements relief and developmental projects there. During the first half of 2015, the office was able to implement more than 258 projects in the fields of health, water, education, orphans sponsorship, shelter and mosques at a cost of more than 6,500,000QR. Health projects were implemented at a cost of 55,000QR, shelter projects for the needy at a cost of 84,000QR, 218 wells and toilets at a cost of 958,000QR, 36 built mosques at a cost of more than 3,000,000QR, a school at a cost of 350,000, and or 2,500 orphans sponsorship at a cost of 1,500,000QR for the first quarter of the year.

QC Holds a Health Camp for Orp

QC holds a health camp for its sponsored orphans in Pakistan. The camp provides medical examinations to check their well-being and activities to raise awareness about hygiene and environmental cleanliness.100 orphans benefited from the project.

The camp was organized by QC office in Islamabad, the capital, in coordination with “Al-Islah Center” that takes in the orphans sponsored QC in Mardan City- Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Province. The center is one of the 7 centers sponsored by QC in Pakistan to secure these orphans’ education, health, and behavior as well as to bring out and develop their talents and capabilities.

The medical examination was supervised by a medical team that consisted of 3 doctors (a pediatrician, a general physician, and an ENT specialist) and nurses. The team spent a whole day examining over 100 orphans for weight, blood pressure, respiration, sensitivity, and infectious and dermatologic diseases.The doctors also examined the orphans’ teeth, eyes, and joints and secured the necessary medications. The “Islah Center” was instructed to refer the ones with diseases that required external treatment to near dispensaries for follow-up.

Hygiene Bags

In addition to examination and treatment, the camp had activities for raising awareness. The doctors distributed leaflets that included general instructions about personal and general cleanliness within the shelter. They also stressed on the importance of taking maximum care of personal hygiene, using detergents, taking several showers every week, and exposing the mattresses to sufficient ventilation. The camp also distributed a hygiene bag to every orphan. Each bag contained soap bars, shampoo, a comb, a clipper, a towel, toothpaste, and a toothbrush.

At the end of the health camp, the director of “Al-Islah Orphans Center” thanked the administration of QC office in Pakistan and the administration of QC in the main office in Qatar for offering this medical examination to the sponsored orphans. He said that this came at the beginning of the winter which was usually accompanied by respiratory conditions. A few words were delivered to carry the sponsored orphans’ gratitude and prayers to their sponsors in Qatar.

It is worth mentioning that QC provides for 3,870 orphans in Pakistan and Kashmir, 1400 of which live in 7 shelters (internal departments) and 2,470 live with their own families.

This camp is one of a series of periodical educational, entertaining, and pedagogic activities that QC carries out for its sponsored orphans in the 7 shelters.

QC had previously organized an educational and entertainment day for 200 of its sponsored orphans in Dheerkot region in the province of Bagh – Kashmir State. Hygiene bags were distributed to them on the occasion of “Global Handwashing Day”. There were a number of chants, madihnabawi songs, and contests.

QC also held a big ceremony at the time of distributing sponsorship money from which 450 sponsored orphans in the capital of Kashmir, Muzaffarabad. The ceremony included various educational and entertainment activities and short plays that manifested the role of sponsors in raising the orphans and saving thousands of families. The roles were played by school children. In addition, different entertainment activities were held on the school yard by the orphans such as tug of war contests, colored balloons, a jump-rope game, and a musical chairs game.

It is worth mentioning that during the few first months of the current year, QC’s office in Pakistan built 18 mosques, dwelled 1,083 wells, and implemented 103 income-generating projects. It also built a multi-service compound, a shelter for the orphans, and a center for handicraft training.

Charity Societies in Qatar Bui

20,000 people from 19 villages in Sudan will benefit from the water plant which is being built at a cost of 3,000,000 QR.
The lab tests showed that the groundwater used in Saqadi can cause cancer which is why the water plant was important to stop the spread of diseases.
During the inspection visit, it was announced that the water plant will operate in two weeks.

QC has announced that the water plant it is supervising in Nile River state in Sudan will be ready this month. 20,000 people from 19 villages will benefit from it.

The project was funded by Qatar Red Crescent, Islamic Dawah Organization and QC who worked together as partners and paid an equal share for the implementation. The project was implemented at a cost of 3,000,000 QR. QC was responsible for supervising the work progress through its office in Khartoum.

Inspection Visit

A delegation from QC; headed by Mr. Youssef bin Ahmed Al Kuwari, QC’s CEO; paid an inspection visit to Saqadi region in Nile River State where the plant is being built. Mr. Kuwari was accompanied by Mr. Mohammed Hamed Al Billa, River Nile State Wali, and Mr. Rashid bin Abdul Rahman Al Nuaimi, Qatar Ambassador in Sudan.

During the visit, Engineer Al Hadi Adam, Director of Kanana Company, spoke about the work progress of the project and that the plant will start pumping drinking water in two weeks from the visit.

For his part, Mr. Al Nuaimi expressed his happiness that the project was about to be over. “Such developmental projects reinforce the relationships between the Qatari and Sudanese peoples,” said he. In addition, Mr. Al Billa addressed the people living in Saqadi and praised Qatar’s role in relieving those in need, sponsoring orphans, and implementing projects in Sudan. “This water project,” he said, “provides clean drinking water. We thank Qatar’s prince, government, people, and charity organizations who helped build this plant.”

Reasons for the Project

The reason for this project is to contribute to providing drinking water from the Nile River to limit the spread of diseases resulting from drinking polluted water. The lab results have shown that the groundwater the people of Saqadi used to drink from is greatly troubled and has Zink which causes cancer.

The project aims at providing drinking water to 20,000 people by constructing a water plant on the River Nile with water intake, intake pumps and a transporting line to deliver the raw water from the intake to the plant. There is also a main line to transport the water from the plant to 19 villages

The plant has a capacity of 2,000 m3 with a settling basin that has a capacity of 250 m3 and a water tank that has the capacity of 100 m3 and a height of 12 m. The plant also includes a laboratory to test the water, a store for chlorination materials and buildings for the operation and security crews.

Memorandum of Understanding

In order to make sure the plant is entirely built and that it will continue to work, QC; representing itself, Qatar Red Crescent and Islamic Dawah Organization; signed a memorandum of understanding with Drinking Water and Sanitation department at the Ministry of Water and Power and River Nile Administration. According to the memorandum, Drinking Water and Sanitation Department pledged to conduct the studies, design the projects, provide a supervising engineer, to issue exemption from customs duties and project imports value added tax, and to provide the targeted villages with water tanks. As for River Nile Administration, it pledged to build a water network from the Nile River to the water plant, to build a water network from the main water plant to the targeted villages of the project, to operate the plant after the experimental operation stage, to provide the necessary technical staff and to send periodic work progress reports to the two parties.

QC is the First Association Li

Al-Fahida, “This certification reflects the credibility and transparency of QC’s work around the world. Our offices facilitate rapid intervention and allow continuous follow up with our development projects.”

The Pakistani Authorities granted QC a license to practice humanitarian work in the Pakistani territories. QC is, thus, one of the first 2 of 127 acting nongovernmental organizations who had applied for the license.

This was part of the Pakistani Authority’s attempt to organize the activities of civil society organizations on their land after they had banned all the memorandums related to licensing NGOs.

Professionalism and Transparency

Although the Pakistani Government allowed the NGOs to work until they were allowed to apply again to the authorities for licensing, it set a number of standards and mechanisms for field work in Pakistan. The 127 organizations applied for the license and the first two approved applications were QC’s and the Belgian Doctors without Borders’.

Mr. Faysal Al-Fahida, QC’s Director of Operation, thanked the Pakistani Authorities for trusting the Association. This proved –as he said- the credibility and transparency of QC’s work.

Al-Fahida added that QC conveys through its offices a message of hope to all the needy people around the world, regardless of their identity. QC –he said- would continue on the road that was built on professionalism and transparency.

Welcoming and Celebrating

The Pakistani Media –both English and Urdu- celebrated the news of approving QC and the Belgian Doctors Without Borders as the first of 127 NGOs who had applied for new Memorandums of Understanding. Pakistani Government had called off the work by previous memorandums since November 2013.

Many of those concerned with the humanitarian work in Pakistan praised the news via the media. They considered it important to commend QC and the way it conducted its work. QC’s office consequently received many calls of felicitations.

Renewable Benevolentness

QC started its activity in Pakistan in 1992 as a local association. It works through 5 field offices in Sindh, Punjab, and Khyber. It also has representatives in Kashmir and Balochistan. Its activities include the fields of health, education, economic enabling, relief, water and sanitation, and crafts training centers. In the field of social care, QC sponsors more than 4,000 orphans, poor families, and students in the 21 districts of Pakistan’s four provinces –Punjab, Sindh, Balochistan, and Khyber- as well as Kashmir. QC’s office coordinates with 7 orphanages in Punjab and Khyber.

Pakistan’s office cooperates with local organizations to ease the sufferance of the neediest categories. It also coordinates with UNICEF to implement projects of water and sanitation, health facilities, awareness and suburban seminars, and to organize festivals on the occasion of “World Day of Clean Hands”. The festivals include distributing thousands of personal hygiene kits to school students in Rajunpur, Rahim Yar Khan, and Bannu districts. QC also works with UNICEF to construct facilities for the disabled and sewage networks for the displaced of Waziristan Region.

Spread Widely

Having 19 offices around the world, QC has the ability to rapidly intervene in case of catastrophes. This also enables it to observe its development and construction projects and supervise its sponsored orphans, students, needy families, and disabled persons.

QC’s offices are in: Sudan, Palestine, Mali, Mauritania, Somalia, Bosnia, Albania, Kosovo, Pakistan, Indonesia, Bangladesh, Burkina Faso, Niger, Yemen, Tunisia, Comoros, Kenya, Chad, and Djibouti. It is worth mentioning that QC’s operation department is planning to open new field offices in Morocco, Jordan, Turkey, Nepal, India, Sri Lanka, and Ghana.
